Dog killed chickens - do I start over?

Get rid of the dog and pick up the phone. I just ordered from Meyer. I'm sure for you Cackle would be your best bet now if not Marti's. Chickens are really a renewable resource. Heck, order some now and in the spring. Will

Sorry to hear about your chickens. I would have voted to get rid of the dog (but then....i'm a cat person

). I just ordered four chicks from My Pet Chicken. They are still showing ship dates well into October for some breeds.

I'm so sorry!! I have had bad luck with my beagle dog too... she has killed 5 of my chickens... each time I have learned what I did wrong and tried to correct it, but that doesn't really make me feel any better about the losses...

I know you are just so upset, but getting more chicks will always make you feel better!! Good luck!!

I just ordered 25 babies from Ideal!! I got 10 assorted special surprise pullets, 5 assorted brahama pullets, 5 assorted cochin pullets, and 5 assorted dark egg layer pullets. I am so VERY excited!!! Haven't told my husband yet, though....

So sorry, but don't let this discourage you. Chickens are great. Just make sure everything is predator proof, or close to it.

I had a fox attack 10 days ago and lost half my hens and felt terrible. But....you cannot alter what has happened.

However, my daughter, without my knowledge, ordered three Naked Necks....and I immediately looked forward. A Brahma hen of mine has just gone broody again, so she now has fertile eggs.

The cycle of life continues and it is better to continue doing what you enjoy than to throw in the towel in defeat.

You can only do what you think is best to protect them. When something happens and you lose them, you learn better ways to protect them next time.

Not unless you can dog proof your chicken run and yard.

Might be either dogs or chickens and not both. You have to decide what you can afford to do.
