I think if it was me, I would bandage the wing up so its not hanging and wait for the tissue to die off "naturally." If you clip it you will be creating another open wound or a larger one. I would try to keep her alive if she appears to be doing as well as you say.

Under no circumstances should you use any med with "caine" in the name. Ie: lidocaine, etc.... Those medications are lethal to chickens! I would let the wing tissue die on it's own if it is that badly dammaged and then just clip of the dead wing. She will not feel the removal that way because the nerve tissue will have died as well. I think you are doing great, just keep up the good work and we are all pulling for her to make it

my dog got to several of my hens(I just got a shock collar for him)I used wound kote and she was pretty badly torn up.I keep her by herself and give her electrolytes . Good luck

Did you think about just cutting off the circulation with a rubber band or string or something? A friend does that with her puppies tails when they are born to dock them, and since it is just held on by tissue, it should work. It would hurt when you first put it on, but it would eventually die and fall off. Just a thought. Make sure you get it good and tight though, so it doesn't get gangrene in it. No blood circulation at all.

So sorry what happened and wish you and the hen all the best, but in regards to the dog, sometimes we just have to face the reality. What about if a child or human being gets hurt or even killed the next time? I know, that you do not want to hear it, but I have seen a 3 year old child getting hurt by a pitbul out of control. We just need to use our senses...

You are correct Mypicklebird, dogs are social animals. Bama has not been locked in the pen all the time. He is my old mans dog. I have three pittbulls, of course they will fight with other dogs so they must be seperated. The reason I think the dog did not respond to me was because my old man didn't want me spending time with him. He says I turn pitts into sissy dogs and I don't see anything wrong with that. I stepped back and let them do there thing but now I see it was a mistake. I still don't know what I will do about that situatuin. Right now all my concerns and efforts are getting my baby back to as normal as she can be. She is definately a fighter. As far as this dog going after children its not going to happen, although I would never leave a child unattened with this dog. Once I have my baby out of the wood we will figure out what to do with the dog I just hope my hen makes it.
