I have every right to post here I just asked to leave the cull and dog discussion out of the treads for now. I have a emergency I have to deal with now and that is more important than dealing with the dog problem now. I will be open for a disussion on these dogs once my girl is out of the woods and can give you the long story on my 17 dog's.
That said dlunicorn is on the ball with my hurt girl.

Wish me luck and if not me wish my Sadie luck. Pease, SARA

I can't believe this is even a discussion that has gotten this far..... the bird should be put down and not made to suffer through anything like this. If anyone cares for their birds, they'd do the humane thing and put the bird out of its misery.

Even if it does survive, what kind of quality of life will it have with no wings? It wont be able to roost, it wont be able to dust bathe, it will have a hard time keeping warm, and thats even if it survives the misery and pain its probably going through now. People need to learn to quit being so selfish and put the animals needs before their own.

I want to make clear, I never once suggested terminating the dog. Maybe down the road, when your hen recovers and you can focus, you can find it another home with someone who can control it and who doesn't have any other small, tempting animals.

I am very sorry for your little hen and keep us posted on her recovery.

Praying for you ,Sara.
I would have done everything you are doing. Hope the day gets better.

i don't agree about the shock collars not working on pitt bulls. we bred pittbulls, boxers and dobermans for about 10 years. don't blame the breed, because i have had my own dogs (of either breed)bite cats, chickens people ect... the collars do work. but you must also socialize the dog.....keeping it confined is not good. i had two pittbulls, 5 boxers and a doberman that stayed in a pasture with 2 horses and 2 pygmy goats. after i learned to socialize the dogs to other animals i had no more problems. the dogs learn boundaries outside the fence with collars and also learn that to get along w other animals with time and training. that's a win - win situation. hope your bird recovers. best of luck.

Not attacking you just stating facts. Re read the posts again she knows all this. It is her hubbies dog, I do believe she doesn't have much choice.

But I do have a choice I chose life for the dog. After the dog attacked my hen I had to literally fight my old man and get a gun away from him because he was going to shoot the dog
right there on the spot. I couldn't see doing this in a spur of a moment decission when it hadn't been five minutes sonce my hen was injured. Like I said this is tearing me up inside and him killing the dog would of added to my grief.

And I agree with you. Nothing should be done about your pup till you are calm and can think clear. And dogs can be re trained. No matter the breed. Good luck with your pup. And I am really sorry about your hen. Hang in there.

My Sadie is doing good today, she seems to be getting stronger each day. I started her on the amoxicillin with the dose that dhlunicorn suggested. We also have a plan to remove her remaining wing that will not be painful to either one of us. I feel much better after talking to dhlunicorn for I think this girl has a good chance now. I will keep everyone posted as this treatment may take quite awhile to heal. Thanks for all your support. SARA

I will listen to your comment since you took the time to post. If you had read to first post in this thread maybe you would not have posted at all. Trust me as I have thought about all the options. If I thought my girl was in pain and suffering I would have already gotton some one to cull her. The last couple of days I thought she might be in pain but after talking to dhlunicorn I am convinced she is not. Sadie still plays with me like she has done since I hatched her and is eating more than before. She is enjoying the extra treats I have been giving her.

As far as quality of life, her life will be better than any of my other chickens, she will be my special needs bird. I have come up with all kinds of ideas to make her life worthwhile. I have 24/7 to make sure this happens. As upset as I have been over this whole mess I will not let you rain on my parade. {no offence taken-everyone is intitled to there opinion}. I didn't want any negative post because the state of mind I have been in since it happened. One of my family members attacked another one of my family members. Thats a hard pill to swallow. Maybe I did want her with me for selfish reasons but I did it already so I have to move on and hope for the best.

You see I am disabled from a attack from a stranger{MAN} that came up behind me in a grocery store parking lot and strangled me. I thought I was a gone-er for sure. I have permanent neck and back injurys . I also have bersitis in my left hip and shoulder and carple tunnel[sp] in my right hand. The worst part is I developed anorexia after I was attacked and have starved myself to dangerous levels.{83lbs} I can no longer work and on most days I feel useless so to tell me to cull this bird[I can't do it}. My birds have giving me something to want to live for instead of starving myself to death.{ I SHOULDN'T OF TOLD ALL THIS} So if you think it is selfish to keep Sadie alive than I am guilty.{tears running down face} This is why I asked for positive post only.

I have her being treated by dhlunicorns instructions and hopefully all will go well. I have confidance in my girl because she seems to have a strong will to live. I could learn a lot from her.

Thanks again for everyone rooting for Sadie to make it.
