I understand what its like to loose an animal that you hold dearly, as I have lost them myself. But when it comes down to it, no amount of my feelings, emotion, or tears, is any reason to continue to allow an animal to suffer.

If the healing is working, and you'll be able to save her, more power to you, and I hope it goes well.

But my opinion remains the same. Crude, raw, and blunt as it may be, I stand by it.

I think she was saying that in her first post, she asked people to refrain from "death to the dog and chicken" posts. Some of us don't feel that a chickens quality of life would be ruined by lack of wings. How about silkies that cant fly up to roost? How about birds who live in wire bottom cages who can never dust bathe? Should we kill those, and all the chilly birds in Maine? I do not think you have a strong case to cull, PouletsDeCajun. You do make a nice chicken coup though. Ever consider putting wheels on that thing?

And thanks for the comments on my coop. I've thought about putting wheels on the top portion, but there really isn't any need because I dont allow my birds access to grass and dirt. They are on shavings at all times, unless they are out while I am cleaning coops.

This is not about what we feel is the right or wrong thing to do. This is about respecting the other persons boundaries. This has gotten out of hand and very negative. Its not about having the last word or forcing others to do what someone else wants done. We need to respect what others chose to do and not to infringe on a persons choice. Comments like these do no help anyone. We need to be able to discuss issues that we want discussed and to be able to feel support, not criticized. Remember that we come here looking for support and great information. Please stop the negative comments.

Frankly, I have to say that knowing what I have learned by watching my own chickens, they don't have any concept of the deep thought needed to understand the concept of 'handicapped'.

I think your girl will do just fine with no wings - probably even better than a lot of chickens with other disabilities like blindess or lameness, et that seem to do just fine.

Animals accept so readily what we humans 'over think' often. We think that our quality of life would be so much less if we lost both of our arms, but chickens just don't think that way, IMO.

They want clean water, good food and a chance to scratch around. She can do all those things quite well without any wings at all. AND once the healing is done, she won't be suffering in pain. She'll be running around, scratching in the dirt and being a happy chicken.

Hang in there, Sara. I'm pulling for Sadie AND you. Glad you got a hold of Diana - she's one of the chicken health 'pros' around here!

Ignoring the dog issue in posting a reply to the chicken issue is like ignoring the proverbial gorilla in the room, and now the stated dog population has expanded to 17.
I DO wish both you and Sadie well, I just disagree with how the situation both came to be, and it's resolution.

It's entirely fine to have differing opinions from the OP. She did state that she wanted to avoid the discussions about the dog and about culling the chicken. It's her thread and her right to make that request. I would guess that she made those requests b/c she didn't want to share personal and traumatic personal history, which she eventually felt compelled to share. It's not fair to her to back her into a corner like that.

Please honor her request. Clearly this is an extremely trying time for her and we can offer support or simply not post. It's that easy.
