Dog thread!🐾

Brew just finally jumped up onto bed with me when I finally laid down. I decided that’s why he was so needy because I normally lay down at like 7 and he’s like mama it’s bedtime lmaoooo for like 3 hours he tried to tell me 🤣😭
Mine always remind me when it's past bedtime. That's what I get for giving a bedtime treat.

Thinking of ways to help my puppy with his random things that need worked on...

First, a longer tug toy to be able to teach him more clearly where his mouth does and doesn't belong. He has figured out that he has a better hold if he is closer to my hand and that he wins easier (I actually lose grip). So he has accidentally bitten me several times. We started working on that tonight by saying "ah ah" when he goes to my hand, and praising him when he takes his own half. I'll try to work a "gentle" command into that. He started to get it, but when he gets excited he forgets. ;) I bet a longer tug toy will be a good reminder. The one we have is very short, though he does enjoy it.

I have been teaching him "eyes" the last couple of days in hopes of getting him to listen to *me* instead of the food in my hands. He is super sharp when we are training during mealtime (half GSD, he picks stuff up SUPER quick) but only listens about 35% of the time outside of that. I think it would probably help to also get a fanny treat pack to have food on me at all times, so he never knows what's coming. Only problem is, he probably wouldn't play or go pee if he knows there is food. 😂 He LOVES mealtime and performing commands. Right now we are teaching "right" circle.

Last one my mind right now is better crate manners. We have worked on and he is now pretty good at going in when asked, and about 90% of the time he doesn't fight the door closing, the latches going, etc. Again, if he knows there is food, too, he does amazingly. So naturally once I leave (he knows what washing hands sounds like and knows it means he isn't getting more) he starts whining. I don't pay attention to him. Sometimes I give him a few pieces of kibble when he settles and is quiet. He usually settles after a while if we leave the house or go to the bedroom, but right now I'm sitting in the same room, out of sight but he knows I'm here, and he takes much, much longer to settle in this scenario. Not sure how to help him with that. I'll keep treating him for settling down I suppose.
