Dog thread!🐾

You have only had Marshmellow for 2 months so she still is settling in

by not listening what do you mean? Are they not pay attention to you everywhere or specific places?

it will take time! Everything is still very new to her and she is learning, dog training takes time some dogs pick up on things quickly others need more time. I wouldn’t expect too much from her at the moment, give her more time to bond with you and settle in

are you doing training sessions with only one at a time? If not then thats one place to start

the other things you could try

-settling together
teach them to go to their beds, separately at first. Then do it with both dogs together (You can separate them with a gate at first)

-if you have a extra person you can try going on a walk with both dogs, the aim would be that they sniff and ignore each other

-play with the dogs when they are together and when they aren’t

-treats every time the pay attention to you when they are together

you might need to do these things with 1 dog at a time then try with both

I hope this helps!
Yes! I follow that chart even for non rescue dogs Tucker took 6 months to warm up to everyone in the house. But as soon as he laid eyes on me he was attached. Although not a rescue it takes time. Especially when you havent had them since a puppy, you dont know their history. They may have learned words for tricks that nobody knows about. Just keep training it gets better over time.

Yeah its like 2 hours from me. And that report was 5 days ago.
Oh wow that is CLOSE!! I have no idea where it is here. I know New Hampshire is a hot spot right now which is a couple hours from me but I think it was also confirmed in Massachusetts too but I’m not 100% sure. Someone said it wasn’t but then someone else said it was now so idk.

Well, Bosties aren't the sharpest tools in the box. šŸ˜‚

Dog Chow, huh? That's great and not what I would have expected! Dorie's been on so many different foods, including a couple from Purina, and I haven't been happy with any of them. No obvious coat or skin issues, just endless GI issues.
My little dog I lost last year spent her whole life with chronic gastroenteritis. She would throw up blood, and poop blood when she was having flare ups. She was extremely sensitive to foods and ended up eating chicken and rice a lot. She started sneaking the Puppy Chow and it didn't make her sick. When we switched to the little bites she could eat that too without problems. I did try the high pro dog chow and that ended up being too rich for her. Her heart problems slowly went away too eating Dog Chow. I now prefer a lower fat and protein for my dogs. They hardly ever get digestive upsets, and if they do it's because of tick diseases.

Definitely don't want to talk anyone into feeding any food. Every dog is different, but I currently have 7, and they have done best on Dog Chow and the Purina one weight management. We have been using Chow since 2019. I'm very happy with the results.

And yes, Boston's aren't always very smart, but they make up for it with joy and happiness, and constant companionship. :)

Out of curiosity, which ones have you tried and how long? I’ve recently learned it can take up to 12 weeks for the old food to clear out of the system.
Thanks, I'll remember that if I ever change her food again. I can't remember all the different foods we've tried, but I think we got the small bags of each which might not have lasted long enough.

WOW, that's amazing. I'm tempted to try the Dog Chow now...

You’re welcome! I found it fascinating it can take that long to fully adjust because I hadn’t thought of it.

And you should def try it! They have a ton of different kinds too which I didn’t realize it.

Chicken, beef, lamb, high protein, little bites, tender and crunchy (turkey and lamb). And a few Puppy lines.

Not all will be available everywhere like I’ve only seen beef at Walmart.

Dorie is currently on Wellness CORE Digestive Health Chicken and Brown Rice and has been on it for at least a year. Her poops are semi-firm (which is a big win for her) but she seems to have bad acid reflux. When she has diarrhea she gets Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EN Gastroenteric Fiber Balance. This food causes her anal glands to fill up and leak. :sick

I believe we've tried another food from the Purina Pro Plan line, one from Blue Buffalo, Diamond Naturals (which is what Luna is on), Purina Puppy Chow, and a couple others. All of them gave her diarrhea or "soft serve" poop and I introduce new foods VERY SLOWLY.
