That said, rescue dogs definitely arenāt for everybody, but it does them a huge disservice to paint them all as these problem filled maniacs.

I have had 2 with behaviour issue (I donāt mean small things like humping) and I heard from many people who have worked in rescues that majority have some kind of behaviour issue, definitely not all but there is a very high chance they will have something. It can take months before it appears which is why rescues are not necessarily ideal for ESANot all rescue dogs have behavior issues. Thatās a myth. Especially if you get a puppy and raise it right. Brew has no issues. And I know 5 other rescue dogs who also have zero issues. Except one used to resource guard slightly but doesnāt anymore. But thatās the only issue out of 6 dogs. And well bred dogs can have behavioral issues too. My friends dog is a serial humper and sheās from a breeder. Not a rescue.
And they said possibly a service dog, not definitely yet.
People definitely need to be honest about them but I still wouldnāt say most have issues or that most arenāt good with other animals. Thereās tons of friendly, perfectly adoptable dogs getting put down every day here because everyone thinks they all have issues. I used to think that too but itās not true. And Iāve seen plenty of supposedly well bred dogs with issues too. More so, in fact, than I have with rescues. Another friendās dogs both were anxious messes, one aggressive and one friendly, and both came from āgoodā breeders. Brew is mostly bully breeds yet LOVES other dogs and other animals. That said, I have seen some say they were good with cats and then they killed a cat or whatever example but those were extreme cases.I have had 2 with behaviour issue (I donāt mean small things like humping) and I heard from many people who have worked in rescues that majority have some kind of behaviour issue, definitely not all but there is a very high chance they will have something. the breed recuse here specifically say do not get a rescue dog unless you can deal with behaviour issue. If you want anything specific or have other animals then most of the time rescues arenāt ideal
that doesnāt mean people shouldnāt rescues dogs but people (meaning rescues/ adopt donāt shop) need to start actually being honest about rescue dogs
and I was saying why rescuing a dog for a ESA is not necessarily the best route for everyone, obviously people need to make up their own mind on whats best for themPeople definitely need to be honest about them but I still wouldnāt say most have issues or that most arenāt good with other animals. Also, ESAs are literally just pets with a few extra privileges so rescues are perfectly fine for that purpose. Brew is going to become my ESA hopefully soon. And she said she wanted a dog now so I was just suggesting a possibly faster route.
Yeah, thatās true, you donāt know but you donāt know for sure with a breeder either. They can do their best and still end up with a dog with issues behavioral or health. The thing with rescue dog is you might get a dog with no issues or you might not, there is no way of knowing
most of the dogs come from byb and puppy mills. The older dogs might have been dumped because of their behaviour issues and the kennel environment does not help dogās mentally at all
and not all rescues are honest about the dogs (most that I have seen aren't)
not to mention the adoption criteria (fenced in yard, no intact animals (not just dogs!), etc)
Yeah but it seemed like you were saying it was a horrible route and not to do it at alland I was saying why rescuing a dog for a ESA is not necessarily the best route for everyone, obviously people need to make up their own mind on whats best for them
yes, any dog can have behaviour issues but picking a good breeder gives you a lot higher chance of a dog that is exactly what you wantYeah, thatās true, you donāt know but you donāt know for sure with a breeder either. But yeah more need to be honest and I personally havenāt seen the no intact animals thing at least here but Iāve heard about it. Like someone had a snake or something similar where you canāt spay it and they got denied. But I think those are extreme cases not all of them.
And yeah they could be dumped for behavior issues or the family could have just gotten divorced or died or something.
Yeah true, I did look up the breeder they came from and they donāt seem that great but still.yes, any dog can have behaviour issues but picking a good breeder gives you a lot higher chance of a dog that is exactly what you want
just because a breeder looks like a good breeder doesnāt mean they are one, if they keep breeding dogs with awful temperament then I would say they arenāt a good breeder![]()
