Dog thread!🐾

Tips for focus? We have tried training her to look in my eye or at me when I say her name, she'll do it at home but once we get any distractions it's gone. We have been persistent with it.
Do you carry high reward treats? Those can get most dogs to focus. Some dogs are fine looking people in the eyes, and others won't do it. It can be seen as a challenge by some dogs.

Your pup is young yet. Not everything you are teaching will seem to stick, but eventually it all takes when she matures. Pyrenees are an independent breed. Bred to work alone. So it's normal for them to be aloof or distracted.

I agree she is an independent breed who is still in adolescence, struggling with focusing is normal. Reward her whenever she focuses while you are out with her and keep working on it!

She's ok with eye contact because she'll do it at home pretty well

Just keep it all up. One day everything seems to click for a pup, and suddenly they are doing everything you ever asked. They go through stages where they listen, and where they seem to ignore you. Raising a good pup takes a year or two of consistency. You set the groundwork, and it will take in most instances.

There is few time when no amount of training with overcome the dogs basic breed instincts. You can't stop protective dogs from being protective, herding dogs from herding, or sporting dogs and hounds from hunting.

Yeah that's true, I've heard a lot of Pyrenees owners tell me "ha that dog won't listen to you till she's 18 months" been hoping it's kinda true lol
