Dog thread!🐾

Exciting day yesterday! We went to the dog training club and then to a pet shop and feed store

Fanta did amazingly at the club she has improved hugely around other dogs. She wasn’t going mad with excitement. She did struggle a bit with being distracted when doing heelwork with the other dog’s moving

I am again surprised by how intelligent she is! We where doing stay and recall practic, all the dogs where in a line owners would move back, wait then call their dogs. Most of the dogs where getting up and going to their owners. Fanta was watching them and would wait nicely until too many dogs got up then she would presume it was time for her to get up 🤣 if all the dogs sat she would stay

we also did some find things, they had a line of 5 plastic plant pots we went to one end and the trainer took my clicker and hide it in the second last plant pot, I tried to keep Fanta from watching. I have taught her to find the clicker but just plain to find the clicker not to look in or toss over plan pots. So where does she go when I let her off leash? Straight to the trainer :th She bounced him ran further in to the field, came back bounced him again sniffed the floor ran straight to the correct plant pot paused for a few seconds then ran off again. She know he took the clicker last and then she tracked where he went back to the pot then I don’t think she know how to get the clicker from the plant pot. So it looked like she was a out of control dog running around randomly but she was In fact doing exactly what I wantedšŸ˜…

we went back with her on leash she had no real interest in any plant pot except for the one with the clicker but she didn’t tell me clearly enough that it was there

she struggled with other dogs retrieving but other wise dis really well!

More from yesterday

Pikelet was with us she sat with my mother and just watched the training apparently she was a bit scared if a dog came too close while looking in her direction. her and Fanta brawled at every opportunity bit I was surprised Fanta would leave and try to ignore her if I called her

we got Fanta a cooling vest, some new toy, a nice coat that was reduced a huge amount and a really nice slip leash

probably the most exciting news is one of Fanta’s siblings found me through my social media! :weeI all ways have wanted to know what happened to them, now I know about 1 at least! I do worry about her siblings because I am pretty sure a lot of them are going to be rehomed šŸ™ one person took the first puppy that went up to them, so the most outgoing and boisterous one, the fact that thats how the chose the puppy say they probably wouldn't be able to handle the dog

I always thought that method was really odd... what happens to all the shy or poorly socialized ones?

its a really bad method! The calmer less outgoing puppies are a good fit for a lot of people. Thats why its best for the breeder to choose a puppy or 2 options for the owners. The puppy definitely isn’t choosing you because it went to you first it’s going to do that to everyone šŸ˜…

none of Fanta’s siblings where really shy or poorly socialised there where just 2 that where a lot more boisterous then the others
I know quite a few grass muncher dogs

I feel like I am taking a sheep out to graze when I take Twiggy in to the field šŸ˜†

Just saw a video of someone with a off leash dog in heel walking through a crowded place I dog started barking at them from under a table. They corrected their dog for looking and said if they hadn’t they would have lost control of their dog

do you think this is correct use of a e-collar?
I think if you are going to loss control of your dog from a actually quite common occurrence then it should be on a leash šŸ˜…

Sounds like Fanta did amazing! And Pikelet did to! I love to stay in touch or find our dogs siblings. My aunt has Denver brother, and we are still in contact with the breeder so its nice.

So Denvers whole litter wasnt socialized properly. So once she came home it took a lot to socialize her. She was fine with people, but didnt like other dogs and loud noises. Since bringing Tucker home she has so much more energy to play with other dogs and i love it!
Denver did pick us. We sat down on the floor, but she didnt immediately come to us. She was shy and scared, slowly she came to me and i knew she was the one. On the second meeting she was so excited to see us it was crazy at that point she was attached! She was the only puppy there that would just sit when asked she knew her name before we brought her home and learned tricks so quickly.
