Dog thread!🐾

Its been to hot for over a week to walk the pups. So i started doing different training sessions. Outside/Inside, 15-20 minutes each, with training games, normal training techniques, and some new techniques.
Last night Tucker had Agility(along with showmanship and obedience) class. For obedience(sit for 1 minute, down for 3, figure 8 and heeling) he did exactly as i expected following every command. Showmanship (practiced patterns, along with stacking he stacks so naturally if i dont intervene. And the assistant instructor called us out stacking saying to the others to try to stack their dogs like that)
Agility( 16 inch jumps, tire jump, short tunnel, table, long tunnel, a frame and dog walk) he did all of them. It took a bit of time for him to do the tire jump(so many dogs around he took awhile to warm up).

Then just walked him and he heeled when asked, auto sits, stays, and he didnt react at all.

I think the trainings helped alot

That’s amazing!!!!!!

Of course I forgot to reply 😭
Can you put a soft muzzle on him?
Ear drops would be hard with a dog that wants to bite
My only muzzle doesn't fit his head 🥲
Can you talk to your vet for alternatives? Thats what we had to do with Twiggy, absolutely no way we where getting ear drops near her! No muzzle because we would not have been able to get anywhere near her again if we did. Plus if there is something wrong with their ears, they probably won't like the muzzle going around them

I can think of a few things but they aren't quick fixes or I only know very little about it
Are there many alternatives to ear drops? I'm not sure what they'd be, and another oral med would be kinda just as hard...
But last night he did so much better! I think it's probably helped a heap that we're starting to get on top of his pain so he is a little less reactive. Part of the reason it is so hard is due to major pain in his neck. Hard to hold his head still enough for drops without hurting him.

Oh, that wont work. Unless the vet has a soft muzzle you can use?

I know there is ear gels still have to go in the ear but easier to put in.

If he is in pain it will be harder.

Im glad you can help him again!

They probably would let me borrow one! But I wont be going there for awhile 🥲 So only if he continues being hard to manage I will ask and try to make a trip in to get one.

Yeah, I feel so bad for him 😭 Ever since his appointment he's been so sooky 🥹
Im glad you can help him again!
Me too! Even if it's hard 🥲

Thats great! Don't forget reactivity training isn't linear, you will get ups and downs. For example Pepsi tried to kill a ceiling fan when we where out 2 days ago :lau (She did though quickly work out it was safe😆)

I have no idea what the alternative could be, I just know it might be worth asking to see what they can do.

What methods have you tried for the oral medication? Surprisingly the one that has worked best for Twiggy's pills was just putting it on my hand with a load of treats, feeding her one treat at a time and then the pill randomly in between the treats

Reactive training isnt easy at all.
But im getting better at finding the triggers and working on them.

On the 11 month of her life little Pepsi gave to me, 1 hurt knee, 7 days of crate rest and a lot of screaming

Vet said to just monitor and put her on crate rest unless it gets worse.

Pepsi loved the vet, even though the vet did hurt her while looking at her leg 😆. She also used every opportunity to stand up on her back legs 🫠

Now I need enrichment ideas for the incarcerated screamer 😭

I hope she heals quickly

Puzzle toys are the best way(kong, lick mat, snuffle mat, toy feeder), bully sticks with a holder.
I dont know if you could but hiding a treat under a cup and have 2 other cups and then let her find which one the treat is under. In her kennel thought
