Dog thread!🐾

Send prayers and hope to my family PLEASE!! My sister's dog, a 2 y/o pit/lab/beagle mix, was just hit by a car. They live on a country road and she has a bad habit of chasing rabbits across the fence line and that road. She darted out at the wrong time.
She's got gashes all over but from the one picture, looks up and alert, she's just shaking.

This is her. In the picture, my mom is applying pressure to the worst wound on her back leg there. There are a few scrapes on her head, too.

Nearest emergency animal hospital is 45 mins, and my parents sound like they are only planning on calling for an appointment in the morning when the local, small clinics open up. My sister is on her honeymoon right now, hundreds of miles further away from home than even I am, so she of course can't take her. :'(

I’m so sorryšŸ™ I’d just try to make sure she is relaxed and wounds are washed. She doesn’t appear to be in too bad of shape so I think there is a good chance she’ll make it.

Maybe @Somewhere_In_The_Clouds would have more advice for you while waiting for vet appointment

I think washing and bandaging is what they're doing on the dining room table there. I see the bitter vet wrap. They do have styptic powder for minor wound packing and stuff, and plenty of astringents/wound care supplies. I think that one on her leg is the worst, and only one really bleeding much. I think my sister and I are mostly worried about potential internal injuries, or ones that won't show up until later due to shock.
They stopped sending updates to the family GC, so not sure what's going on. I sent them info on all the closest ER vets and my poor sister is begging them to please take her. :'( Hopefully their silence means they are trying to get things moving.

Sounds like they are doing pretty good! I hope they do take her. Honestly wrong in my opinion if they don’t, especially if your sister is begging

A vet ASAP is what's needed...
You can't see internal injuries. An internal bleed, a punctured lung ect.
I'm honestly not too comfortable saying too much either.
Monitor her gum colour though? Pale = shock and/or low blood pressure. Purple/blue = lack of oxygen and really a serious emergency.

Yeah, they've always been weird about medical care for animals, it's so frustrating. They love their animals, but as soon as there's an expensive illness or injury (mom said they don't want to "deal with" internal injuries...), it's pretty much over for the animal. :\ Which I don't think my sister would allow in this case. She is very much HER dog.
I think I've shared about our cat Tipper on here before. I had to BEG them to put her down (piperazine poisoning, old cat with failing kidneys), it was ridiculous.

Thanks for the gum color info, I will pass that on.

That’s so sad😭 well it’s not their dog so they NEED to take her in. This is extreme, but something like that happened to me the relationship would suffer.
