Dog thread!🐾

That’s so sad😭 well it’s not their dog so they NEED to take her in. This is extreme, but something like that happened to me the relationship would suffer.
My family's always been so weird about this sort of thing, I don't understand it.
The dog is technically paid for by my dad, and she lives at their house. She is my sister's by emotional bond/verbal declaration which means she is "everyone's" dog, which means no one will step up for her and make the final decisions, or really listen to the decisions of others (similar to why no one would shoot the suffering, elderly cat...).

Also if there's a serious bleed at all, do not do something like a tourniquet. Pressure bandaging instead. Use as much as bandaging as you need/have.

Here, refusal of vet care can be seen as a welfare/animal neglect issue... it's really not right to let an animal suffer for no reason.
They are applying pressure last I heard. My dad does have good emergency wound care knowledge so I fully trust that he will wrap her up very well.
And they will take her to the vet, it's just a question of "now" or "in the morning".

Glad I can now care for my own dog the way you're supposed to... Life is so different in the wide open country vs the suburbs though. There are things I've done with our pupper that I'd never dream of having to/trying to do with our farm dogs. Like learning how to walk nicely on a leash. 😅

Can you just sneak in and take her yourself?🫣

Yeah that is so nice. It’s hard to share a dog with someone when you don’t agree on stuff. So frustrating

Nope, I'm 1,200 miles away. They wouldn't stop me or anything though, if I did walk in and go "I'm confiscating her". 😂
My dad's got work and is usually asleep by over an hour ago, and my mom, while being a night owl, is borderline agoraphobic for anything further than 15 minutes from our house and is scared of driving a) alone, b) at night, and c) anywhere near anything that resembles a city, and the ER vet is in a big city. It's not like they don't want her to get seen, they just don't have a sense of urgency for these things.

I kind of feel like it was less that anyone disagreed and more that stuff just like... never happened. Like everyone perpetually assumed everything would get taken care of by everyone else. Same for animals. They make sure the animals are fed and sheltered, but outside of basic care for livestock, nothing around the home gets done? I dunno.

Sounds like her gums are good, haven't heard anything else and I'll be off to bed soon, but I'll let y'all know if there's anything more in the morning.
ETA: They contacted an ER callback vet that's closer, so hopefully they'll get something sooner than the local ones can provide. Driving to the city tonight is not a good option for them. My dad "would rate her stable, but needs looked at". Colors are still good in the mouth. All bandaged up and bleeding stopped, just favoring the gashed leg.
ETA no. 2: Vet called back, also said she sounds stable based on all information given. Vet says they did what he would have recommended, bandaging and settling somewhere cozy.

That I understand on a personal level. Though I think for the sake of my animals I'd force myself anyway. Hopefully she can hold on till the morning ❤️

Once I finally got complete control over my animals' health care it's been an insane relief. Being able to take my animals in whenever I feel they need it without needing approval or permission or even assistance.
I was never allowed vet care for my birds, which mean as much to me as my dogs, when I was younger, then slowly I just started taking them along to work with me if possible/when they needed it. When I wasn't inconveniencing anyone with transport and paying for everything myself, no one could really object. Now I know I can do that even in an emergency too.
