Dog thread!🐾

Yeah probably. He gained a bunch of weight after his neuter cause I was feeding him way too much (his appetite increased and I went along with it :hide ). But now he’s also just older (about to be 5 LOL).

And thanks!!!!!! It does sound perfect LOL
I wouldn’t think it’s age. 4/5 is still young for a dog, even a bigger one I’m pretty sure.

Thanks. That makes sense. I have read though that most dogs or at least a lot of dogs calm down a lot or start calming down around like 2-3ish. So I thought maybe that was why. But IDK. It’s probably just that he’s overweight and I’m not very active anymore either. We used to hike annd go for super long walks all the time and now we barely walk at all :hide I mean, we do walk, but very short distances. He used to run for hours lol

Most of mine are couch potatoes by 5. That is normal. A few breeds stay more active like boxers. Pepper has been more active lately. She lost a bit of weight, at least she looks like it. It helps to have two young dogs hanging off her neck to drag around, as well as needing to run more or get tackled. She still gets tackled by Biscuit and Trixie in the end.

Pepper seems to like it. She's been really good with Trixie. If Trixie starts to make trouble Pepper goes by her and redirects her to more calm quiet play, instead of the usual boxer stomp and bark.

Ok I guess that makes sense. That’s sad though. That seems way too young for a dog to start slowing down. I guess I’m just so used to higher energy dogs, Chase and past dogs.

I think it’s pretty normal at least for most pet dogs but it’s not that they can’t be more active if needed, it’s just they aren’t, say, destroying the house now hahaha they’re more chill. I also think they adapt to their owners too. I don’t do much anymore so Brew adapted LOL but he’s still perfectly capable of going further if I wanted to. I get what you’re saying though.

For the average owner that's a good thing. Most dogs have a life expectancy of 10-12 years on average. So 5 is middle aged, and most of that crazy energy is gone. Not all breeds, but most. Being older now I prefer dogs that calm down younger, although I add a bit of spice with a boxer and Aussie. Can't be too lazy. :) Boxers act like goofy kids until about 8-9 years of age.
