Unfortunately land is expensive here... It's half a mil for five acres and a double wide. But I'm in the Cheyenne area, and it does vary a ton across the state.

Despite the high land/house prices, you can get rentals for really good deals and some landlords let you keep chickens. DH had four hens at his first rental here! The city is pretty friendly about chickens, you just need permission from neighbors if you're within limits. Otherwise it's kind of free for all, do what you want.

Hey now, you technically only need like 50k for the down payment, and if you're poor enough, you can get an interest free loan for that.
