They probably slowed down so they wouldnt hit your dog.... then they felt it was safe to go, and the dog ran out.... (i've been in that situation myself, you see a dog by the road,..you slow down,.....the animal stops,.... you start to drive again slowly, and the dam animals decides to dart into the road anyways....

Please take responsibility for your animal. It will be hit again..and most likely wont survive.
If your dog got out on accident, then thats a different story....

I keep my dogs away from the road. I've seen too many people swerve to hit animals on purpose. They'll even go so far as to swerve into your yard to do it. Nope, far away from the road for my boys!

It is entirely possible that they didn't stop because they were afraid. They could have expected that you would get irate and blame them for hitting the dog.

In the state of pa at least you are liable for whatever trouble your pets or livestock cause. If in pa the driver could have in turn called the cops, had a report done and sued you for damages to their car because your animal was lose and not under your control or on your property.

I am very sorry your dog was hit but it is your ultimate responsibility to control your animal.

I wouldn't get out of my car to apologize for hitting a dog. Just incase the owner was violent/crazy or such. Glad your dog's alright.

I'm glad your dog will be okay. I know that if it was me who hit someones dog, I'd feel horrible. And yes, I'd apologize, even though it may not have been my fault. I may be mad at the person who let the dog run out into the street, but at the same time, extremely sorry for hitting it. Heck, last week I ran over a oppossum, and was horrified, and cried like a baby, just because I always look for animals and such in the road, it was just unpreventable.

she wasnt in the road when they had slowed down she APPROACHED THE VEHICLE AFTER THEY HAD SLOWED TO A CRAWL in front of the house

No matter how many times you type it, it is not the drivers fault you allowed your dog to get into the road.

Hopefully the dog and you both have learned a good lesson

Besides getting hit by a car, your dog could have lots of bad things happen to her - she could be stolen, tortured, bred (if not spayed), used by terrible people as a bait dog, the list goes on and on - Please consider this a wake up call that saves your dog from all kinds of worse scenarios. Pen her up, and I am so glad she is okay!

Thank you to those who responded kindly about a difficult situation. To those who were less than kind and felt the need to beat a dead horse.... well....

OP, I am glad your dog is going to be ok.
