The EPA is discontinuing Comfortis.

Remember any topical solution you put on your dog is a chemical.

I do not use any chemicals.

Diotomaceous Earth (DE)(food grade) will kill adult live fleas. You may have to get a shampoo to kill the existing flea problem. Use DE on your carpets, bedding, etc. Feed garlic, either minced or powder granules. Be vigilant. Treat your yard, and house.

Good Luck!

You REALLY want something called Comfortis... it is a pill and you can get it at your vet... it is the ABSOLUTE BEST for fleas.... PM me if you want more info.

Edited to add: Why is the EPA discontinuing? I LOVE this stuff... I have tried everything in the past 4 years and this is the ONLY thing that has helped.... I have too many stray animals that come across my property and we keep getting reinfested... I cannot spray the entire property.

Where did you hear that? I know the EPA is trying to make people more aware of the dangers of ANY flea treatment, but I found nothing on-line that said the EPA was banning it. If it's true, I am stocking up.

ME TOO... I don't know what I would do without it... nothing else works!!!!

I was just researching Beneficial Nematodes today for a squash-vine-borer problem I'm having. It seems spraying beneficial nematodes around your yard will kill the fleas breeding outdoors. The nematodes get into the eggs and adults and infect them with some sort of bacteria. Pet safe, non-toxic, etc.

I think he is wrong. I just spent some time searching for any indication that Comfortis is being banned and found none. I had used frontline for years and it quite working very suddently. I believe they reformulated it and didn't bother telling anyone. Comfortis WORKS!! I buy one of the pills for dogs 60 to 120 pounds and use a set of gram scales I bought on Ebay to divide the single pill up for all 3 of my dogs. One weighs 70 pounds, one is 8 pounds and one is 4 pounds. I have had NO side effects at all the entire time we have used it. A single dose lasts for much longer than a month, even in my sandy southern soil where fleas thrive. Comfortis is the only flea treatment that works here.

fleas don't just breed outdoors, they breed inside the house in upholstered funiture, cracks between hardwood flooring, deep in carpet where the vacuum can't even pull them out.
