Dog won't stay off couch

all right my opinion...To train a puppy to stay off furniture first I try newspaper...They jump up on it it makes noise they jump off....Easy enough...If that doesn't work I use the tin foil trick...Problem being 1 of my GSPs prefers tin foil to her dog food...Which brings upon the final cure all...Go to a carpet store. Most of them carry that hallway runner carpet protector<--I have no idea what it is called. It is clear plastic and it is used to protect carpet in heavy traffic areas...It is sold by the foot and they can cut it any lenght you like.....Here is why it works...The back of the runner is covered with tiny plastic spikes, not nearly as horrible as they sound. Turn the runner upside down and cover your couch....Now your dog jumps up onto it lands on 1 million tiny spikes, which are essentially painless but scary none the less....They jump off and Problem is solved....If you apply and remove the runner when they aren't looking they never can tell if it is off or on....and don't want to risk it either...JMO...But it works for me...

That's a good idea, actually.

They now make that stuff specifically for keeping pets off things, but why not just use the original?

Remove couch from dog crate. Voila...

Or give in and get good leather couches. It's just easier. Leather cleans, doesn't hold dog hair. Lasts years longer than any cloth couch fabric.

I have EIGHT dogs.

Just don't let the dogs develop scythe's for nails, even then good leather rarely scratches.

We go for a nice dark leather to go with the neighboring MUD just in case we have to be ready for visitors in a hurry. Light leathers need more cleanining more often.

Um, I think PC said somewhere that crating was not an option for Jake. Unless you sorta want to view the house as the dog's crate, and I don't think PC is willing to take his sofa out of the house.

OMG...I have walked on those spikes. Talk about not wanting to move but jump off at the same time!​

That's actually a good idea. I think I would try that before I tried mouse traps

Hmmm... you could always move the couch to the back porch. That would solve the problem and give the neighbors something to talk about.
