Doggie Geriatrics Question

This is why I make my puppies food. She was constantly puking that clear yellowish bile all the time. Even on Science Diet bla bla. It's stopped since I've been making her food. Turns out it's cheaper to make and freeze it anyway.

We tried raw, but Cookie is old and set in her ways. Commercial food without grains is a good compromise.

Could just be the food, needs something a little less hard to digest. Let your vet check her out for any serious healt issues (other than the obvious one). Let your vet recommend a food or diet that is best for you dog.

I feed my 14yr doxie Purina one senior formula, she is doing good on that and has for years. I am lucky, she has no food alergies. A food decision should be based on what is best for your dog and what works best with your dog and should be the best you can afford.

One problem with this is that vets get about an HOUR of nutritional training if they are lucky.

Another problem is the training classes are SPONSORED BY MAJOR PET FOOD MANUFACTURERS.

The third problem is that they will most likely prescribe a food like Hills or Purina by prescription only because they profit from those foods. These foods are mostly made of corn.

I feed my dog Taste of the Wild dog food. He does really good on that or Eagle Pack.
They say when picking out a brand or dog food the first 2-3 ingredients should be all animal based(chicken, lamb, beef,) then should be listed ___meals (fish meal, lamb meal) and then byproducts. That is to make sure your dog is getting enough protein, you do not want it to mostly consist of vegetables and corn. Vegetables are not really good for dogs.

I put veggies in my dogs food. Mainly cause every dog in my lifetime I've seen eating grass. I use at least one dark green in her homemade food. It's for her brain LOL.

Ok Doh, I'm so used to feeding my animals this way for 13 years; here's what I've been doing: I have 3 cats and whenever I've fed them it's been Friskies wet food and the dog (at that time a pup) never ate her "dog" food, she was always interested in the cat's food. So this is what the 3 cats and 1 dog have been eating ...for years. No corn or wheat, or glutens that I saw listed on the label.

Maybe at her age too much protein? I also mix the cat food (for dog) with dog kibble - Purina lamb etc kibble mixed with the beef/poultry wet cat food. She has been fine til lately....

Get a senior food for her. My schnauzer ate whatever I gave him most of his life until he got really old and started vomiting and having diahhrea (sp) every day.

We put him on a senior diet and it all stopped.

Yea I'd go with a different dog food. I have a doxie/aussie mix who had stomach issues and we switched to a "no grain" dog food that happens to be Taste of the wild also and have had no problems. I also put salmon oil on their dry food and their coats are amazing, their poo is much smaller, firmer and more consistent and they overall look better.

I would recommend seeing the vet too though to rule other things out. Wet food is horrible for dogs teeth. My dogs get a can on Christmas and their birthdays, but it's still a grain free
wet food. High quality food is more expensive but you feed less because of the higher protein, clean up less poo in the yard, and your dogs are healthier.

Good luck, keep us updated.
