Dogs and fleas

Some where around here Ive got a receipe where you add garlic to their water with vinager too I think ...I'll see if I can find it. I works good for outside pets that share water bowls.

Well here goes.

I almost always use ground turkey........cost efficient.....my dog is 72 lbs.

1 lb ground turkey

Approx. 2 c. rice

1 can veg. Mine is poodle mix......requires green leafy....like spinach although I sometimes use sweet potatoes cause she loves them

Ground baked egg shells about a tbsp.............great nutrient for calcium.........use a coffee grinder. ( I always keep a jar on hand for when I make Dog Food.)

Bit of Canola oil....not much

Jar Garlic.......about a TBSP

1 Farm Fresh Egg

couple c. water.

Mix all together in BIG bowl. Nuke for half hour.........stirring once in between.

Walla.

This lasts me two days for my BIG dog. Feed her AM and PM

I just do it at night when I'm on BYC.

If it is too thin you can add some oatmeal but it will gel a bit after cooling.

Hope this helps.

When you bathe your dog to get rid of fleas, it doesn't matter really what shampoo you use. Make sure it stays on for 10 minutes to kill the fleas. If you use a shampoo called Bubble Neem it will help in repelling the fleas, as it has natural repellents in it. Combine that with a misting of Zap Spray every couple days and combing with a flea come, and you should get rid of the little buggers. Diatomacious Earth(aka DE) works well around the yard, as it dries the fleas out. Boric acid(found in Borax washing machine powder) sprinkled on the carpet and left on for a few days, then vacuumed up, kills fleas in the house. Feeding a raw species appropriat diet also helps in keeping the pests away. There is a Really great book about feeding species appropriate diets to dogs and cats - it is called Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats - by Kymthy Schultz. I Highly recommend this book when starting a raw diet. Or, look for a kibble that uses human grade ingredients like California Natural, Innova, Natural Balance, Canidae, Wellness, etc.

Happy bathing!!!! Hope some of this helps, even in the slightest!!

If you just want to kill the fleas that are already on the dog you can combine betadine with a mild dishwashing liquid in a 1 to 10 ratio and shampoo with that. It will kill them. Vet told me that too

For a flea shampoo use the regular blue Dawn dishwashing liquid, straight from the bottle. If you have the problem in your house you can also use the dawn in water and mop your floors. This includes mopping your carpets.

This is what we use at the Vet's office where I work.

I've been shampooing weekly because frontline is too expensive to have to wash off if the dogs get skunked. Our first summer here they got skunked three times. Man you should have seen the fleas fall off my girlies today when I bathed them. The yard is too big to try putting anything on it. I'm gonna try the Adams stuff it sounds quite economical.

I've never heard that about Dawn. Maybe I'll try that next time they need a bath.

Frontline is water proof, as long as its put on 48 hours before the bath (although I prefer to put it on 48 hours AFTER the bath).

Check out the prices here: http://www.entirelypets.com. I have 7 dogs, and wouldn't be able to afford Frontline if I had to buy it from my vet, so that's where I get mine from. I'm a groomer by trade, and I order it from that site for clients as well.
