Dogs are killing my ducks and chickens. How do I safely repel them? Ultra sonic?

Don't be so sure it won't turn on you, i have trained hunting and guard dogs. Once a dog gets "woke"/alfa its a danger when its turned on.
Four years ago a dog ran uncheck and worked itself into a killer. I ran it off a few times. I saw it run a mile area of roads when it would get lose every few weeks. It came back and jumped my fence. It chew my little dog. It took the vet an hour to sew him up. My dad beat him off with a steel yard rake. It tunned on him but got wacked enough to jump back out of the yard. It kill chickens and ducks just down the rode after it left here that day. It killed a horse the next day. The grape vine said the dogs owner hauled it off before he got in trouble being his dog.
Once they start its a hard thing to stop.

This was right before i got my chickens.

The dog that killed my chickens last Monday had the look of a "Bad" dog. Ranging in every yard looking for action/hunting/prey. Soon it becomes anything that runs gets set upon. This type can not roam. They will not come to for petting. They are not friendly.

I can sympathize. I had a duck about 2 years ago that was ripped open. The wife's a nurse, so when she got home we stitched, bandaged and kept him inside. He's the only one to this day who will jump on my lap and let me pet him or feed him. I'd really miss him if he was attacked and gone.

Your point is spot on. It is naturalistic instinct. Maybe sometimes dogs play, but I don't know that and neither would a duck or chicken. They might bite, in which case, a duck or chicken usually just gives up.

I don't know the right answer. I want them to free range and be safe. But I can't always be there.

Then you can't have them free range and safe- it would be best to keep them secure
I know you want them free range, but if you do that, then you cant complain about animals killing them.
It's not ideal, but in some situations, like this one, it's better safe than sorry. Get fences up secure and keep em safe

That is true, but it all happened inside my property. A unwelcome visitor. If you look at it this way, my property is their pen. Not trying to argue, but a dog came in, unleashed, without the owner walking or knowing, and killed.

You will take loss free ranging so get use to it. Not to say do nothing about dogs running a large but don't be up set when it happen as it will. once a dog, fox, coyote hawk knows where to find the action, action must be take because they are coming back.

Where I live, there are no coyotes, hawks, or larger predators than a dog or feral pig. It is also what it is. They free range, but inside my property. When the sun goes down, they get locked up. Most of the time I'm outside or aware if a dog comes by. At night, it can turn into a different story. But like I said, I think it's kind of a two way street. Part my responsibility, and part the owner. If I wanted to use the law, I'd probably win and be allowed to shoot someone else's animal. That was what I was trying to avoid.

yes but a responsible chicken owner know things eat chickens. Its going to happen. The less you harden off , the sooner it will happen. You will be in the right, your neighbor will be at fault and you chickens will be dead. Proactive = live chickens

For me it has to do with morals. I understand other peoples approaches are different. If I went to war with a neighbor and his dog, then my views will change. Kind of like trying to keep the peace before it gets out of hand. Shit happens.

One important thing to consider - if a dog can get to your birds, so can other predators. Even if you never see them, they’re out there. Often, you don’t know what’s out there until you have animals that attract them.

Would an electric fence around the chicken and duck areas help? Or just by the area where you can't put a gate that they are getting in?

I’m sure it’ll help. I don’t want to deal with the cost of electricity or dogs invading my personal property by installing something electric.

Ironically the best idea I heard was getting a dog myself. Then someone said that dog could turn on me.

It seems there is no good answer other than finding a way to keep your pets safe and unwanted visitors out of your yard.

I just don’t want confrontation from killing a dog, calling the police or animal, so talking with your neighbor was very good advice which I did do.

One may be in the right to shoot a dog, and one particular (it’s maybe 2-3 a year) almost attacked me for chasing it off. In that particular instance, if the dog hurt me it wouldn’t be here today.
