Dogs more important than Chickens?

The issue is about love.
One person may love their dog more, or their boa constrictor, or their hamster.
I can't say someone's hamster is less important than my chickens, because what matters to me and what matters to them are different so it's a tie.

If their snake came into my space to kill what I love, then I will kill the snake.
If their dog came into my space to kill what I love, then I might kill the dog.
There's a "might" here because I love dogs too! What would make the difference to me is, can I approach this dog and restrain it so I can send it back where it needs to be? If it's too nasty to handle I'd lean towards killing it. If it's a nice dog I might just cry into his fur instead.

I had an ongoing battle with my crackhead neighbors dog that kept killing my chickens and rooster and even threatened to shoot it. They were not responsible dog owners. It was very frustrating and exhausting. I recently had an incident where I had one of my flighty leghorns fly into my English and French bulldogs fenced in yard (6ft)…. I would like to think that my dogs are well trained and they have never caused any problems with people or even my autistic child. They are just too lazy cute dogs that I love to pieces! Never showed any kind of aggressive behavior. Both are 1 yr old. Anyways, about that leghorn that flew into my yard… BOTH English and frenchie bit her! I was outside so I had time to intervene and save my chicken. Had I not been outside there is not a doubt in my mind that they both would have killed my hen for sure! It was quite chaotic scruffing them and getting to her to help her but I did. Moral of story, I’m not sure how to respond because now I can look at this from both points of views. My dogs are my family and I’m a good owner. My chickens are also my family and I am a good owner! However there has to be a fine line for me, it may sound bias but I wouldn’t dream of killing my dogs, yet they were definitely disciplined! With that being said, had it been someone else’s dog, I feel like I would have reacted much differently, much like in the past when I was constantly arguing with my neighbors because their dog kept killing my flock……. Dogs will kill chickens IF THEY CAN GET AWAY with it. I’m trying to look at my example as a wrong place wrong time type ordeal for my hen. She’s good though. No deep puncture wounds, cleaned up with some Hibacleanse and spending a few nights in the garage to relax and not be stressed out and warm. My pups got a bath and that’s the end.

I would not be to hard on yoursself about your dogs. A squawky chicken flying right into their faces would be hard for any dog not to chase.

Yeah, I have heard many stories about dogs that were perfectly fine with the cats, but one day their prey drive just switched and they killed the cat. This happened to my sister, it was so sad, she was devestated about her kitten.

Yea definitely had me scratching my head. I don’t want aggressive pups! Especially towards my chickens. We have a flock of 25. It would be nice to know for sure that they weren’t aggressive in any manner…… I love my animals and they have all been raised from the get go around each other. (With a porch and fence separating.)My English wasn’t playing either. I had to man handle her. My frenchie is just goofy but he definitely followed suit. Idk hopefully it never happens again. Not sure why the hen flew into there to begin with… probably been chased by a rooster…. Which is a whole other story! One good thing about English bulldogs is that they do NOT like being scolded. She has an attitude and has pouted all evening. She won’t even look at me lol she literally went to bed with her back turned face against the wall so she knows she did wrong. My frenchie probably done forgot
