Am sorry you lost one of your hens.

I understand your frustration about animal control. To get animal control to come out, we have to call the county sheriff, they patch us through to AC. There was a Lab puppy (older) that was at the back of our property on the other side of our fence, she was there all day. That afternoon I called AC and informed them, she was still there the next day, then my hubby found her in the front of our property, laying by a hay bale. I again called, and this time, someone came out. The dog had a hurt leg, and was hungry, so I hope she was cared for.

The ones who anger me are the owner who let their dogs roam first thing in the morning. I see between 6 - 8 large dogs on the back road, while taking my girls to school. Three of them have some type of leg or foot injury. I just don't get it, if you are going to have animals, be responsible for them.

I hope you do not have to use the 22 again, but if the neighbor is stupid enough to get another dog, then I guess he will be missing a few more dogs soon. Like a PP stated, inform AC about the issue, and even file a police report to cover yourself.

Bummer you had to do that. Sounds like a NFH in the making. I recall complaining once to a neighbor(and AC) about their cats.They started letting their cats outside to toilet,because they were doing it all over the house. Once I reported the damage to my home they started harassing me over MY pets.

Poor pitbull. I see no good end for that poor dog. I would just dispose of bodies. Giving it back just fuels the fire. Watch for poisons and keep the coop LOCKED.

I have the same problem with my the people across the road they are on there second pair of dogs and they killed my daughters prise show hen she never got to show and my sons batam and 4 days away from hatching 12 chicks. They killed and mamed several other animals of ours also. my daughter is afraid to ride her bike any more because they chase her. Is it legal to rid this problem with .22 after calling AC SEVERAL TIMES AND TALKING TO THE OWNERS ?

Here is a link to a very handy site about animal laws. The link is direct to KY, being my home state, but you can look up your own state to find specifics for your area. Most states have laws to protect livestock, whether said laws include chickens is another matter (KY does specifically include all domestic poultry). Inform yourself first and act accordingly second.

The war has begun. You did what was right... except the shut up part, missing dog ads are alot better to deal with than a neighbor that now knows you killed his dog. In the future keep it to yourself you will have less headaches.

I would fix the fence better. Ignore the neighbor and if you have to kill his dog again, throw it over the fence where it went through so the neighbor can survey the damage himself.

I wouldn't be as patient as I was if my kids were in danger. I say you should shoot the dogs immediately next time you see them.
