Last night, I was down in the chicken yard and my 10 w/o Araucana jumped up on my shoulder. Cute.
She was busy preening herself (and me, occasionally) and "singing" the way they sometimes do in the early evening. I was being careful, minding where her beak was in relation to my left eye. I heard a noise up on the deck, turned that way, and zap! she got me in the eye.
Fortunately, it was more of an inquisitive peck, and I have very fast reflexes. I know it could've been much worse. I'm still going to the eye dr. on Mon., but I don't think there was any real damage. It was like the time I poked myself with my mascara wand.
Still, I think I'll wear my sunglasses if a chick is going to be on my shoulder.
Bet the doctor doesn't get too many calls like mine!
