Hi everyone, I have a chick (hen??), about two months, that we comically named Applesauce (criss cross applesauce). The chick has what I think (from searching so much) a slipped tendon, maybe even just a wonky leg as it happened suddenly. We caught it after noticing it for about two weeks (didnt get better or worse), so I don't think there's really any proper healing help we can do for her. Wrapping it seems to give her a harder time moving it, but I don't want her to scratch her knee/elbow joint.

I want to know if anyone has had this type of issue with a chick and how to best care for it. Also, if anyone thinks she'll learn to walk better on her own. She waddles and goes in a circle but manages to move along. She seems otherwise healthy and content.

Oh boy, I feel bad for you all having to deal with this. Is the leg bent completely backwards?

I'll be honest...you're looking at a lifetime of the bird commitment here. I think she is beyond the age of repairing this. If this were my bird, I'd cull to be merciful. I realize that not everyone feels that way and I respect that. I always weigh the quality of life when making such decisions.

Whatever you decide, know that we all have been where you are and know how difficult this situation is.

I've become emotionally attached to this one and I'm sad even thinking about it. My dad has kept talking about how he should've done it before I got involved. I think if she starts showing signs of being in pain or anything, I'll leave it to my dad. I appreciate your response.
