Hello all!
I can't get quail yet, I'm off to college fairly soon, but I'm doing some research now so I know what supplies I might need to save up for. I like chickens, and I kinda want some Brahmas at some point, they're so sweet and big, but right now I'm thinking about quail.

I see your name is fish keeper...I'm sure you read that you can keep buttons in a large aquarium with a mesh top. They are neat little birds. I'm sure if you got them young you could make them quite tame. Have fun at college!

What is your aim for keeping quail? Buttons and Japanese quail are the best pet quail, with Japanese quail providing you with eggs to eat (you can eat Button eggs but you need twice as many). They are also more docile compared to the Buttons who are quite highly strung. If you like to be able to pat and hold your birds I'd go with the Japanese but if you enjoy sitting and watching them get Buttons as they are always on the go and very active.

You might be able to keep Quail in an urban setting. I have seen posts about raising them inside in Apartments.

I like the idea!
