All these threads about early spring broodies brings my pain at not having a broody to the surface again.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, if I am, that's keeping my hens from going broody.
They are 22 month old LF brahmas, a broody breed. The coop is away from the hustle and bustle of the house. They have mostly covered dark nestboxes. There's one open nestbox that some of the hens prefer. I visit the coop at the most twice a day. They have food and water available 24/7.
I tried leaving eggs to pile up in a nestbox, didn't work.
I've tried seperating a hen that was acting a bit broody to a darkened crate, didn't work.
They free range on 80 acres. I've gone on multiple easter egg hunts, but never turned up anything. Of course it's impossible for me to check the entire farm, but I have checked their favorite hangouts thoroughly.
I showed them an incubator. It didn't work.
What am I doing wrong?
I think this farm has some kind of anti-broody force field around it.
