All these threads about early spring broodies brings my pain at not having a broody to the surface again.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, if I am, that's keeping my hens from going broody.

They are 22 month old LF brahmas, a broody breed. The coop is away from the hustle and bustle of the house. They have mostly covered dark nestboxes. There's one open nestbox that some of the hens prefer. I visit the coop at the most twice a day. They have food and water available 24/7.
I tried leaving eggs to pile up in a nestbox, didn't work.
I've tried seperating a hen that was acting a bit broody to a darkened crate, didn't work.
They free range on 80 acres. I've gone on multiple easter egg hunts, but never turned up anything. Of course it's impossible for me to check the entire farm, but I have checked their favorite hangouts thoroughly.
I showed them an incubator. It didn't work.

What am I doing wrong?

I think this farm has some kind of anti-broody force field around it.

Well of course you're doing something wrong -- you WANT a broody.

Change your attitude to wanting to squeeze every last egg out of the little buggers that you can and I'll bet money that they all go broody at once

I just broke one from broody. THAT was HARD! The other I gove 2 eggs to. We'll see in 17-18 days what happens.

You NEED to get a couple of silkies... Mine was always trying to go broody... And she handled herself pretty good around the bigger girls...

I started to order a couple silkies with my spring chicks and changed my mind. I want one broody, just one time. Is that too mcuh to ask????

I had a dark girl on the nest for quite awhile this morning. I'd love for her to be the one to go broody. She's a very sweet and calm girl, so I think she'd make a good mama. When I collected eggs I took them all over to her and laid them under her. She promptly tucked them in. She's out running around in the garden now.

Would you laugh if I told you that I already tried that?

You make me laugh at lots of your posts. But for this one I need a pix.
