domestic cats the best pest protectors?

The OP stated 'pest' protection not necessarily 'predator' protection, though some pests do cross the line. No one thinks for a minute that there is a cat alive who will do as good a job of protecting a flock from a large predator as a bred and trained guardian dog. . That would be silly

The title of the thread is "domestic cats the best pest protector?"
All the "pests" mentioned happen to be predators too

I didn't mention dogs at all until someone else did.
All I have said is cats are NOT "protecting" much of anything, and they have no protective or "guardian" instincts

That would be silly

Yes, it is

You've got bragging rights there. Not too many cats with that kind of attitude!

Seriously I've known plenty cats around here and only one has lived past 5 years on this farm. Why? Because the predators eat the cats.

But I'd love it the other way around!

Well, my vote goes to a cat for eradication of small rodents and snakes over just about anything.

That's just what cats are best designed to do.
We're both lucky to have fine examples of the species
