Domestic geese hanging out with wild ones. Update: RESCUE SUCCESS

I sent a message to the animal shelter closest to me (a couple of towns over, however), although that would mean getting those crates back to Hillsboro...assuming they are willing to loan them.

My Mother happens to work in Hillsboro, but she won't be back in the office until after the New Year, don't think they'd let us keep them that long.

So, I went out to feed them today and they were just swimming around in the sunshine, not even interested in the food. There was evidence that someone had brought them cracked corn. So, I thinking, what if they are in the water when we show up to get them? Anyone have experience removing them from the water?

yeah, that's a problem... you need a boat and a long-handled bird net or a dog that can herd and swim at the same time... ok, and can swim faster than geese... X(

best I can offer is go early early early in the morning and don't let anyone feed them until you're ready to rescue...

Good ideas, however, there are no boats or dogs allowed. We are not even supposed to go in the water...hopefully no one will tell on us if we have to. Unfortunately, I can't go early, early and hang out until the afternoon making sure no one feeds them. I just don't have that kind of time.

This was the first time I had seen them hanging out in the water, so hopefully when we go they will be on shore again.

We can try for an early, early, early, rescue if you want/are able... Just need to check with my truck guy. Mom is willing to ditch work to rescue the Geese... Shhhhhh, don't tell them!

would be nice if you could post a "please don't feed - rescue underway" sign... but I'm guessing that's not on the list of options unless the folks who administer the area are handy with a sign today...

good luck! keeping my fingers crossed for you!

There is a "do not feed" sign up generally, but most people ignore it. I've never fed anything there until I ran across this whole flock of geese.

I sure hope it all works out, will be watching for updates.
