What’s the problem with the mallard drakes fertilizing them then ?

You can eat fertilized eggs, just collect them daily. They won't hatch unless sat upon.

Let me put it this way, almost all my chicken eggs are fertile. The only time I get chicks is when I put the eggs in an incubator or under a broody. That is the nice thing about birds, you can interrupt the breeding cycle.
