I have 2 Cockerels that are 4 months old. one is a Blue Jersey Giant named Freddy, and the other is a Buckeye runt named Tony( I thought he was a bantam when we got him a TSC). Freddy is obviously the dominant one, he crows all the time, while I have never heard Tony crow. Then when the are in the coop Tony is sleeping in the nesting box. Other than that nothing else has happened they live in harmony and I have not seen any fighting at all. One solution we have come up with is to put Tony and Al the Japanese bantam pullet, who is basically alone, because her bantam friends were killed. Killing one of them is not an option we love these roos and want to keep the for when we expand our flock to 18 hens and these two roos.

Do make sure that you dont hatch any eggs that might have been fertilized by Tony, since he clearly has some issues.

But yes, if he is happy with being bottom rooster, then there might never be any fighting.

Learning about responsibility in breeding is good....

And I do think finding something about Tony that your brother likes, and buying more of that... in pullets, to avoid the rooster issue, is best.

So is it the small size? Look at bantams.

The color? Look at breeds the same color.

The ability to pick up the bird? Chose a friendly and docile breed.

He is the first chicken I have been able to easily pick up. he is not a bantam he is bigger than the other standard pullets that are the same age
