I recently placed an order from Cackle Hatchery, 35 chicks in all. They sent 37. Two have died for different reasons.
In my order, I had 5 Dominiques (now 4).

I've noticed that the Dominiques, more than the others, will jump into my hand, onto my arm and settle down. If another chick joins them, the Dominiques will actually jump on their backs and "ride" them until the other chick jumps down and then they settle down to roost again. They are very calm in my hand and resting on my arm or my shoulder. Curious. Exploratory.
I've only noticed this behavior in the Dominiques. While the others are curious and exploratory, it's not to the same degree as the Dominiques. ...and none of the others are jumping on the backs of the other chicks.
I wondered if they got their name "Dominique" because they exhibited this type of behavior?
