I recently bought 24 chickens. They look to be around 8 weeks old. I was told they were Dominique, but someone said they may be Barred Rocks. Is there a way I can know for sure? I can upload a photo if I need to, that is if I can figure out how to upload it.

I know that dominique have a different type of comb, don't know how early that is apparent though! I'm sure someone can tell from a photo if you have any.

I have also heard that the barred pattern on a BR is more uniform and a Dominiquer has a more random pattern. The BR may almost look like stripes. This is all hearsay from a thread here on BYC, more specifically a response on a thread.

I would go with awesomefowl's response!

Yep, I have (had actually, my BR died recently) both. The combs are the tell.

This is a good "head shot" of the BR:

And if you look closely you can see the difference in the combs on the Dominiques: (Sorry I don't have a good close up of any of those)

You shld see the serrated comb of br easily. The rose comb will be smooth area on pullets and cockerals.

Yeah, single comb birds have tiny little combs even as day old chicks.
Rose comb birds have a flat bit where the comb grows in later...

Edited to add that at 8 weeks the rose comb should be really obvious!

It could also be that you have Dominique/BR cross... My folks bought 4 Barred Rocks from a guy breeding hatchery stock and not one of those birds has all of the traits of one breed or the other but most of them seem to have a mix of the two. One is probably crossed with a Jersey Giant because she's huge and has a cuckoo pattern rather than being barred.
