Dominique Thread!

I know several people on here have Dominiques--So hopefully, they will have lots of pictures and information to share!

Does anyone know the proper way to say "Dominique"?

I am just getting started in these. I have three hens, but lost Oliver the roo in January. More chicks are coming, so fingers crossed for a nice roo.

Here is a roo that I bought as a chick from Bob Berry ( bobsbiddies on here). He sells, sexes and ships dayold chicks from his small backyard opereation in Ray City Ga. And for a GREAT price. He lives close to me and I have bought from him several times and always had great luck with his birds. If any of you want any you can email him at <[email protected]> or see his website bobsbiddies.com.

Here is the roo that my aunt now has. ( his comb spike has been dubbed off though)

My first Dominique was obtained through a trade. Unfortunately the fella that traded me gave me a sick RIR, so my entire flock of 6, including the Dom, had to be put down. The Dominique was most assuredly on my "short list" for the new flock. I have 6, along with RIRs, Black Australorps and Easter Eggers. I can only keep 11, so I'll only keep 2 or 3 Doms. They are one of my favs though. My husband used to call our original Dom "the little bug catcher", because she was so quick and nimble. They are clearly a great forager, and they seem to have very compact, medium builds. Here are pics of my 10.5 week old babies from Welp Hatchery. As you can see, their "sisters" wanted to be part of the pics too! (I suck at taking pics, btw! And my camera isn't all that good either.)

I hatched 14 around Thanksgiving. Seems there is 11 roos and 3 pullets. Hope I am wrong about that but don't think I am. Don't have pictures yet because we have just moved and camera is in a box somewhere. Want to raise some good ones. These are the chickens I remember from my younger days as a child of the 50's. Read that they were scarce and wanted to do my part to raise some good ones. I love hatching babies.

I have 2 and one just started laying!

Here is a pic of the one who is not laying. I might post a pic of the one who is laying later

She is not show quality because she has copper on her chest. Does that happen a lot in Dominques? Either way, I do not care. I love her

Here she is when she was younger:

Ooh! Exciting! We are getting our chicks any day now (15), and then another order in March (25). We are also looking into another order in April (25SR)!

We're addicted! We're hoping to select the best of all the ones we get, and breed up to standard from there.

Anything we don't want to keep breeding, we'll either a) eat or b) keep as egg layers, just for the eggs!

b) We might be crossing some with RIRs for a bit larger egg, but hopefully a nicer personality!

Hi. I just set 20 eggs yesterday. I received a Dominique Rooster from Murray Mcmurray as my free "rare" chick when I bought 7 RIR Hens and 30 Broilers last spring, He is a good boy, he treats the girls well and takes his rooster duties quite serious. Kinda curious to see what the chicks will look like, this is my first attempt at hatching. He is quite shy and usually wont come any closer then a couple of feet, will act like he wants to but just cant, he has provided the most entertainment out of the flock. When I get a chance I will try and post a pic of him.

I am getting my first chickens from McMurrary in a couple weeks. I ordered 3 dominiques and 1 turken. I don't know how to pronounce it either. I have been saying dominique like unique. Anyone know if this is right, or should it be more like nick, rhymes with tick?
