Dominique Thread!

Would it be ok to create new varieties of Dominiques? Like a White, BBS, Crele, Lavender, BBR, and others? Or do Dominiques have to be strictly barred? WHat breeds would you be able to use to achieve this? I was thinking of using a Plymouth Rock to introduce the colors.
Decades ago beginning of the last century there actually were pure white Dominiques. How or why they've become strictly cuckoo patterned today I don't know other than maybe it was a breeder preference for perfecting a true breed for show standards? I'm not a breeder. Just happen to really love my Doms more for their good temperament in a backyard flock. My vet's staff loves to come pet our Dom whenever she's in their office. A really sweet old 6-yr-old girl !!!

She's so precious. ❤️
Hope my Doms reach her age!

Treated my Dom for Bumblefoot on her left pad. Took a few weeks to give her warm Epsom foot soaks and then vet wrapped with triple antibiotic ointment every couple days but the plug finally softened enough to peel away from the bottom of her foot but the skin was raw, bleeding, and needed to heal over.

After the plug came off we covered the raw skin area with triple antibiotic ointment and vet wrapped every couple days. When we saw the scab healing over the wound we continued warm Epsom foot soaks and vet wrapped with triple antibiotic ointment until about a week-and-a-half later the scab came off to reveal a completely healed foot pad.

We kept her in the house during the treatment weeks. Putting her outside with a vet-wrapped foot only accumulated a lot of dirt and sand so it was easier to keep her foot clean while in-house.

Now she's been shaking her head too much and took her to my vet who is treating her with Tylasin.. So now she gets to stay in-house for another 10 days to see if that clears the redness in her throat. Vet is happy that her wattles and comb are a very healthy red color and he's sent a fecal sample to a lab to check for any other problem. Because she's got the slight redness in her throat we have to bring the other two hens into the house to treat them on Tylasin too. I guess if one hen gets a bug all the flock can get it. At least the girls all get to stick together.

As if my Dom hasn't been through enough, now she's molting and only has one tail feather left

I've seen photos of a 6-yr-old Dom turning completely white after a molt but my Dom girl is sprouting solid black feathers mingled in her cuckoo feathers. Anyone else have that issue with their Cuckoo Doms?

Mine have some solid black feathers, just cause they're hatchery quality though.
Yep, mine were from my local poultry store that order their birds from Privett Hatchery in New Mexico. I've had 4 Privett Doms over the years and have loved the temperament of all of them. I don't breed or show birds but I LOVE Doms for their temperament plus they aren't a heavier bird. My remaining Dom weighed 5.9 lbs at her vet visit last week. Her eggs aren't big either. About the size of my Silkie eggs. Eggs are eggs and size doesn't matter to us since there's only two of us to eat them.

I got my 2 from Ideal hatchery here in TX.
