Dominique Thread!

Where can i get some dominiques? Im only looking for 2 or 3 and everyone ive seen only sells more than that. I guess because of shipping purposes. Id really like to add a few in with my flock but i dont want to add 5 or more.

I have a 3-week-old Dominique, and she's the sweetest of the bunch! She climbs into my hand, and sits on my chest without making a fuss. She also likes having her chest rubbed. My other two chicks, an Olive Egger and a Black French Copper Marans, are much more stoic.

She doesn't have a name yet, but I call her Baby Girl.

misskris10: If there is no one local to you who raises them, you might check with a local hardware store and see if they can special order some for you with their next shipment. Some of the smaller stores will do it depending on the manager's disposition, and what kind of contract they have with their supplier.

I have mutts hatching tonight, and will be picking up some Doms with a special order on Monday. Hoping that I actually get pullets this time.

I am new to chickens. I just ordered Dominiques. I was curious though, how common is the Dominique breed. I read they were nearly extinct, but there popularity has made them rebound.

Most commercial hatcheries carry one version or another of them. You can find a fair number of breeders particularly for purpose of show but the number of dual purpose production (eggs and meat) flocks is particularly low. Rarity itself is not best reason to acquire them and we need more folks that are also interested in the production side that have a least working knowledge of show quality.
