Dominique Thread!

need some reassurance ! put my girls out in the big girl house today and locked them up for the day.
I know they will be fine just hope its not to traumatizing for them !
so love my Dom girlies. Had them running around the house last night as my husband and i were eating dinner. they were wild lol
kept jumping on the table had to keep putting them down. Finally put them to bed as i think my husband was going to kill me lol

I know its time to let them go out and they will be fine just so hard to let go lol.

My girls.

Garden lady 2: What temp have you been keeping them at? have you been turning off their lamp? If you've been keeping the lamp going, can you give them a full day or 2 (including nights) without it before putting them out? If they have a dry, draft free place to snuggle for the night, they should be fine.

My husband and I are new to backyard chickens. We are starting construction on our coop now. Since my nana (super sweet and sassy as all get out at 92) says Dominiques were always her favorite, that's what we are hoping to have. The trouble, we have no idea where to get them. Since we are just starting, we really only feel comfortable with 2-4. Any suggestions?
Search IDEAL poultry hatchery, its in central TX, your birds would be less stressed out the shorter the distance

The Dominique Club of America has an excellent, informative website featuring past newsletter articles, a breeder's list and a member's list which is helpful when you want to find someone nearby to "talk shop". (You might also find that some members will have a few birds for sale even if they aren't on the breeder's list.) Add in a quarterly newsletter, a thriving, members only club page on that "f' social media site and it's a real bargain at $10.00 a year. http://www.dominiqueclub.org/
Thanks! This is a great resource!

I've only been turning on their lamps at night since they were 5 days old. Daytime temps have been in the mid 80s to 90s, and I've actually had them panting a couple of times. I give them fresh cold water in the early afternoon to cool them down. In the tubs in the barn right now, they are draft free. The coop may have some drafts if the winds blow from the east, but that's rare. They'll have a very shallow plastic tub filled with pine shavings in the coop so they have a place to stay warm off the ground until they start using the roosts.

Well....mine are out right now, I think they are the same age.

Mine haven't had heat for over two weeks, but they have a broody. However, it is in the 40s here, might hit the low 50s, and they only snuggle under the broody when the wind picks up.

That is a great picture! Love the color contrast! :clap

Mine went out at 5 weeks. Temps here have been down as low as low 30's at night. They have a lot of body heat to share and have done fine.

Jchulsey: Where did you get your Dom stock from? Real nice differentiation between males and females.
