I don't bother to weigh my eggs, but it was a tiny little thing, buff/tan/pink colored. My Pioneer pullet's eggs are almost as big as the RIR and BSL hen eggs now.

I just use my cheap little spring weight kitchen scale to weigh my eggs because I'm always curious to monitor the size/weight of my breed eggs. Someday I'll find an egg scale I like but for now the kitchen cheapy does fine. Leghorns lay up to XL eggs however my Leg's first egg barely weighed more than my largest Silkie egg. She eventually got up to 2 oz eggs but never reached XL like my first Leghorn.

I hope when I get Doms they will lay the pink eggs. Pink eggs never seem to be very big - at least mine never have been. I had two Buff Leg sisters that layed one pink and the other tan. I noticed that the darker eggs were bigger - coincidence that pink are smaller?

If she is affectionate and curious, and wants to spend time with you, she's probably a Dom. Any Barred Rocks shipped will be noticeably larger.

She is curious & affectionate, & remains the smallest of the 9 chicks we received. I didn't order any rocks, but she is 1 of 4 black chicks. The others are a Black Australorp, a Black Jersey Giant, & a Black Orpington. This little girl is by far the most curious & adventurous of the group.

One of my Dom gals has given me an egg 2 days in a row. Both yesterday and today, she'd follow me around, talking. If a bird could talk, I expect she'd be saying... I don't feel so well. Today, I picked her up and set her in the nest box. She shuffled around a bit and settled down to crank out her egg. Such sweet birds.

congratulations! She must feel much better lol. My baby girl is the most spoiled of our 9 chicks. I can't help it...there's something about the way she looks at me & enthusiastically seeks out my affection that has me sharing cuddle time with Carina, the teensy Dom, and all the other birds. I always try to give each chick individual treat & cuddle time to form the best possible bond with them, but Carina has hopped her fuzzy self into the special privilege of exploring mommy's hair & the immediate surroundings while I dole out the alotted cuddles to each of the other chicks individually. There is something special about her that just melts my heart.

If you can grab her in the morning before she goes out to eat, yes, it should be empty.

not really, are you providing grit along with scratch, and what type of scratch, chpped corn will break up differently than other formulated scratch, as long as they are drinking water they should be ok, just dont give as much scratch next time.

It should go down quite a bit by morning. What I do with my glutonous Silkie is give her some Greek yogurt to aid in digestion before she roosts for the night.
