Dominique Thread!

I was thinking 4-5. 4 hens and a cockerel. Is there a good way to do the brooder outdoors?

That's a good question. I don't keep my chicks outdoors. I order juveniles 2 to 5 months old and keep them in-house for quarantine to have vet checkups and fecal tests before integrating outdoors. Someone else will need to answer that brooder question for you. Your 4 pullets and 1 cockerel sound like a good number if you are planning a personal flock. For sales of chicks or hatching eggs for business you'll eventually need a broader stock. Enjoy your Doms - I love them. Even as chicks they are less fearful of humans and more outgoing and curious than some other chick breeds.

I live where it is cold..l keep chicks in the house for 2 to 4 weeks, then move then to a small draft free tractor.

By 6 weeks they are old enough to go from the draft free coop area of the tractor to the run.

I do sometimes have to use a bit of heat in the coop part for the first week.... But my summers run from the 40s to the 50s with rare mid 60s.

Bubbles laid her 1st egg!!!!! A cute little pinkish egg.

My little chick is all grown up now.

I agree the Dom eggs are a very pretty color. My Dom's eggs are also kind of rounded. I can't wait to see how they'll look once they get up to normal size.

Congratulations. Do any of you have pictures? I have one Dominique and she is my favorite. Smallest in the flock but she is top bird. I am hoping she is still laying so I can get a roo and make more.

Asking a person with chickens if they have any pics is like asking a mom to see a baby photo. LOL

Here are my eggs from yesterday & today. The smaller eggs are from my spring 2015 chicks. The 3 big eggs are from adult hens. My backyard mix hens tend to lay extremely large eggs. 2.8oz & up. I also have a blue & a green egg layer, but they're taking a break right now. My Orpington pullets haven't started laying yet, so not many eggs. Enough for our family's use, but I must ration the eggs so I can plan for the extra holiday baking.

Here's so you can see the size of our cute little pink eggs.
