Dominique Thread!

Thank you. Unfortunately I lost her tonight along with a black sex link for whom I was really rooting for because she was making a good recovery from being skinny and featherless. The Dom was my fave. Would greet me every morning and was a great leader.

I found the BSL's wing, along with the dom's feathers in a pile behind the coop this evening.

I'm so terribly sorry

. What got them?

So I hatched out 6 Dominiques and am completely in love with the breed. I read an article thingy about sexing them and think there's 4 girls and 2 boys but would like the Dominique experts opinion.

3 Days old.

1 day old, moving them from incubator to brooder and couldn't resist the opportunity to take there pics.

It's hard to tell, maybe 1-2 males. It looks like majority female. At this stage, I look for a very bright but broken head spot, like a jagged stripe, and thicker legs for makes. Females heads are all black or with a slight very right circular headspot and thinner legs.

I'm no expert & it's hard to tell via a pic. The good news is that you have several chicks to compare. I found this article to be helpful when trying to determine gender:

If you come across a pretty tricky individual, try to post a clear pic of the head-spot & the legs. The more experienced people on this thread could help.

Here's a strange pic I got today. I called the flock over using a piece of bread & got my pic in focus. All of a sudden, my Dom decides she doesn't want to pose & jumped for the bread instead.
I got her just as she popped up off the ground.

I like the shadow of her feet.
