Momma and baby are sooo cute!

Where did you get these guys? Wondering if they came from Bob's Biddies, since I see that you live in GA.

We just got some chicks from Bob's - we picked them up this morning. All were alive and happy.

In other Dominique news, one of our 6 mo. old pullets is broody. What to do? I've left her on the nest with 6 eggs - she's been sitting for about three days now. I'm worried about the weather, at this point.

I got these from a guy just across the state line in Alabama.
I've had great success with them and sell out as fast as i can hatch them

I am new here and with American dominique chickens. Gearing up for long term project to develop two strains based on the American dominique. First strain to be founded solely on American dominiques and be selected to meet existing APA standards and be consistent with objectives of the ALBC. Second strain to be selected for performance in a free range setting with founding stock to include in addition to American dominique the following; two lines of American game, American barred Holland and California Grey. Second strain will be a composite with American dominique repressenting approximately 75% of foundation.

Founding dominique lines are Hyman, Voter, Halbach, Cackle Hatchery and Privitt Hatchery.

Project duration expected to be 30 years.

Maybe we can collaborate by comparing notes and swapping brood stock from time to time. I will be employing family selection with intent of keeping genetic variation high. End products will be geared more to production rather than show although latter will be done to foster interest in American Dominiques. Efforts will be for naught if others not willing to take up keeping and breeding American doms for more than simply backyard companionship.

The second pullet does have a better tail. That is what I have been working on with mine too. It seems like that is a problem with Dominique's. Most of the ones I have seen have a very narrow tail. I have one hen that is really nice. Very typie in everything except for that tail. I will just have to keep working on this and hopefully find some good blood lines to introduce in my flock.

My Privett Hatchery line exhibits pinched tail. Farthing-Voter, Farthing-Hyman, and Stichler-Hachbal lines have very nice spread. Farthing-Voter almost too much. Cackle Hatchery too young to gauge but looking good so far.
