to find a Dominique thread. I got 3 this April and two turned out to be roos, all 3 are super sweet and I can not wait until my lil girl starts to lay eggs. i got rid of one roo and trying despertly to get rid of the 2nd. I got a barred rock and austrolope to add to the flock. having a ball.

I am trying to devise a system to detect low fertility males. A couple of my best males, based on looks, either shoot blanks or do not have enough powder in shell. I wasted two cohorts worth of eggs through incubator before discovering fertility problem. Eggs showed no sign of development. I think a few females will be set aside specifically to test mate males to determine if eggs fertile. Hoping males to be tested could be placed in breeding pen with known fertile hens, let them have their fun for 10 days and collect eggs on days 4 thru 10, place eggs in incubator and incubate for 7 days, then bust open to look for development. I very much want to cull low fertility males before they get into breeding pens with quality hens. Any thoughts on my evil intentions?

Sounds like a logical and correct plan of action to me. Why conitinue to feed them if they can't produce.......... Would you keep a hen, other than a pet, if she wasn't laying eggs? I think its a sound idea.

hiya,i got some chickens 3weeks ago,ive been told by other members one is a dominique,and have just been told what i thought was a she looks like a he,any thoughts??she will be between 10to13weeks,(we were told when we got er on the 9th july shes between 8 to 10 weeks)

Added eight more members to the Dominique flock. Somewhat disapointing hatch, plan to upgrade my incubator before next spring.
