They are too large by 1 pound & a half. Standard weight for a Dominmique cock is 7 pounds.

My Stichler's run pretty big as well. When I give them a quality diet, they seem to run with it in respect to growth. They do feel right nice in the hand though.

12 week old cockerel. Anybody care to critique?

Appearance indicates good husbandry. I am unable to estimate quality for SOP based on juvenile appearance. Many changes in posture and feathering yet to come.

What is bird in background?

It is a Speckled Sussex cockerel, also twelve weeks old. Will eat him and his brother shortly and cross the three pullets with a game rooster this spring.

Got another line of Dominique and plan to breed them pure instead of crossing with game.

Ken,

You might be able to breed all your dominique hens both ways. I found you can breed a hen to more than one rooster during a breeding season and still keep paternity straight without going through an entire breeding cycle. With dominique hens it is extremely easy if non barred (like your games) interspersed in time with dominique rooster(s). The extended black gene allows spotting crosses. This has enabled me to get a larger numbers of broods from a realitively smaller number of hens.

Got my trio of Urch Dominiques today. Very pleased with them. They have some strengths I'm anxious to try to incorporate into my breeding program. Leg colour is particularly strong. The richest yellow I've seen on a Dominique. I will do 2 very small outcrosses using these birds to see what the outcome will be.

wow, they look alot like Barred Rocks when young, what is the differences in the breeds. I am a real newbie and have 2 BR, 2 RIR, 2 JG, 5 Buff Chante's and 2 lt Brahmas now. I really love my Rocks, they are very nice birds.
