Just wanted to post some pictures of a few of my chicks from NYREDS stock. They are still young, only about 8 weeks old, but looking great so far. I'm no photographer and only have an old camera with no zoom, so these are not very good pictures. They look much better in person, but was hard for me to get them to pose for pictures. They are growing like weeds though and so far I am very pleased with them. Very healthy birds and very uniform in size. Combs all look great so far, good temperment, just wonderful birds.

One thing I have already noticed about them is that they are GREAT foragers. They are the only chickens we have other than my Orloffs that range farther than about 100 feet or so from the coop. These tend to go all over the farm looking for bugs, exploring the pasture, foraging all over.


I can't wait to see them once they feather out!

Next spring I plan on getting a couple dozen hatching eggs from NBYReds, hope mine will be as nice as yours.

What percentage of the eggs hatched? I am counting chickens before they are hatched.... Just planning.

My kids say I have OCPD: Obsessive Compulsive Planning Disorder.... Got to have an idea of the hatch rate so I know how many to buy.....

Awesome! For planning purposes, I was figuring on about 60 - 70%

I got 8 chicks out of 32 eggs from NYREDS. The box had obviously taken a few hard licks from the post office. I wouldn't count them before they hatch. : )

That's only 25%. Not great.

But I like to count unhatched chickens............

Does anyone have doms ( from hatcheries) that have vision problems? We have one that is half blind, we think due to injury possibly not. Just wondering if it could be something genetic . I know they were almost extinct at one point. I love my two, they are so sweet!
