Donkeys With Goats?

Quote:
That is a fantastic idea, as the donkey's make such great guardians! We have a neighbor with one and the coyotes are staying away because of the donkey!

I once rode at this barn that had quite the menagerie of animals. Horses, goats, donkeys, llamas, sheep, cattle, chickens, turkeys, ducks, and all were out in a huge field together. It was overgrazed and not the best of situations, but everyone seemed to get along pretty well, considering. I felt bad for the pony mares when they came into heat, but that seemed to be the worst of it. No goats were harmed.

I had two mini donkeys in with my goats.

Donkeys LOVE to play. And they do this by grabbing on to each others necks or legs. It is very funny to watch to donkeys play. Well the older girl was just too rough. She began hurting my goats. So we sold her.

Now the little jack is still wanting to play. So he has been caught picking the goats up by the neck. He gets in trouble a lot about that. We are hoping to break him of this habit. But I'm not sure if it can ever be fixed.

It's up to you. Not all donkeys are the same. He is much gentler with them now. Because he has been scolded so many times. But he still rough houses with them on occasion. They just know to stay out from under his feet.

Before I got my 2nd donkey I had the problem with my donkey grabbing the goats by the neck. After many times fussing at him I put tobassco sauce on the back of their neck. He made alot of funny faces and it did seem to turn him. Then I got him a companion and they wrestle all of the time.

An only donkey is a lonely donkey. The problems described above may be related to having just one donkey and they do play by grabbing necks. They really prefer their own kind!
