My broody silkie hatched 6 silkie eggs in May 2012, now I have 2 maybe 3 roosters out of that hatching. Hubby says they need to go... The agreement was hens only! They are beautiful black/white (splash?) If someone wants them I could be willing to do part of the driving and maybe even throw in a pullet as well! I have pictures if needed. I am in Northern Illinois near the Wisconsin border

thanks for looking

Likely, yes they will fight. There are instances where roosters bow down to the dominant rooster and all goes well but in a short answer, yes, be prepared for them to fight. Once they reach breeding age, especially, we've found they do eventually fight each other and/or your hens will be tormented with more than one. We had some roosters we really had hopes for and who had grown up together and we thought were going to be okay until they were of breeding age and then it started out as little pecking order squabbles and ended with fights with blood. We still have 12 roosters (including mostly silkies) but they are all in thier own runs/coops with their own hens. I had one little Porcelain D'uccle and one little bantam Salmon Faverolle cockerel that I thought were going to beat the odds and be okay and we JUST finished building yet another run and coop for each of them to have their own space. Ugh! I've got 5 roosters in a pen together and they are about 10 months old. I was hoping they would be able to stay together but from what you are saying, I may have to separate them. I haven't seen any bad fighting yet and these boys go out together in the mornings before the hens. Then they go back up when the hens go out. I guess I better break the news to my DH.....he will not be happy!

Hi,

My son has decided he would like to try silkies. We live in poynette Wisconsin. Would you be willing to meet halfway? The kid says he will take all your roosters if he can have a pullet too. He has some turkens and is thinking of crossing them.
