Don't get locked in your coop like I did!

Oh yeah!!..been there..actually it was a stall door in the barn..had several drafts at the time, the stall doors were much taller than usual with a wood latch bar..I went in to clean out the hay manger..somehow the stall door slammed shut causing the bar to fall down..I'm trapped in..the door was too tall for my 5'2" to reach over it.........madder than a wet hen..over an hour later..DH decides to look for me!!

I am so glad to see others are like me. We use the gate clasps and my turkey loves to follow me when I am doing chores and close the gates on me. This is ok most of the time because I can reach through the wire and open it. I have one coop that is only 5 feet tall, but the clasp is behind two 2x4s that my grandson used to make the gate post, hand won't reach the latch. fustrating trying to get out, tried to talk "Tom" into opening it like he does when he isn't suppose to, but he just looked at me like "open it, but I am not suppose to"

last week my DH actually locked me in the run, he was "helping" me with chicken chores and closed the door behind him (so the chickens didn't escape) and neither could I! Fortunatly he was thawing the water dishes and was back out in about 10 minutes. Maybe best not to have help sometimes

Well I'd rather be locked in a coop than in a pig pen....just kidding...glad you got out okay.

When hubby was in the hospital for a few days, I got locked out of the house....I knew my keysets were on their last leg, but oh no, they died, on top of which I had all the windows locked and tried to break in but it was impossible. My ladders were locked up.

Finally I got in after just crying out loud and saying a prayer, the key worked one last time,,, LOcks were replaced that day needless to say!

Ok...... I own my own business as a locksmith, so this whole thread has made me laugh! But if you wanna talk about FUNNY!!!>>>>> Let me tell you what I did back in the spring. Picture my van, it has the word "LOCKSMITH" in 20 inch letters that extend the entire length of the van. I was doing a job in the control room at the local newstalk radio station and had already finished the job and put most everything away when the afternoon guy sits down to go "on air" and he looks at me and says his computers are down. Well, his computers are EVERYTHING.... that's where he gets all of his news and information to talk about, plus they run his commercial breaks. I scrambled to find someone to help. We decided to swap out a power strip that had gone bad under the counter and we needed a screwdriver to remove a panel. Well, I RAN out to the truck and got a screwdriver..... and locked my keys in the truck. Now, I usually carry a spare but it was in the truck, too!

After all had settled down, I started trying to get in my truck. All of my tools were locked inside, so I had to improvise by making a homemade tool from some materials that we found at the radio station. Well, here I am sweating, half mad, frustrated, trying to break into my own truck when some very important people start showing up for their scheduled interviews..... Yep, it was the City Mayor, the County Mayor, and the Police Chief....... all customers of mine....... all of them found it much funnier than I did. Then to top it all off, The station's news director was "covering" the story..... taking LOTS of pictures for their website and asking me questions like: "How does it feel knowing that you can't get into your own truck?"

Well, long story short, I called a very good friend of mine who was also a locksmith and asked him if he was close. He said that he was and I told him to come unlock my truck and NOT SAY A WORD! He came, he unlocked, he didn't say a word....... but he SMILED a REALLY BIG smile the whole time he was there......... I can't say that I blame him, I smiled alot when I had to unlock his truck a few weeks earlier.

Moral of the story? IT HAPPENS TO US ALL at some time or another!

My friend who unlocked my truck for me? Well, I am sad to say that in October of last year, someone took his life while he was working on a customer's car. They killed him for a few dollars and a cellphone. He was a 22 year Marine veteran, leaving behind a wife and seven sons. He was a good man.

Moral of the story? Enjoy life, cherish the memories, don't take anything for granted, and BE CAREFUL out there!

When I designed the coop, I made SURE this couldnt happen to me. The coop is predator-proof, rain-proof, sun-proof, and idiot-proof.

However, it is NOT baby-proof. Baby came by and dropped the cane bolt right into the block.

Don't click if you are offended by un-ladylike hand gestures. Stupid DH.

My greatest problem would be that I would be out there for a looooooong time before DH came to look for me! darn city boy doesn't really "do" all these animals don't you know! I tested the theory once. Hung out in the barn trinkering. It took 2 hrs for him to come look....guess his stomach was annoyed that dinner was late! My advice.....Cell phone, cell phone, cell phone! PS. I wouldn't trade my cityboy for anyone!
