Dont give your ducklings cold water to drink!

I recall using lukewarm water the first day, and not thinking too hard about it later. Tap water would have been in the 50 to 60 degree range for the most part, and would warm up in the brooder pretty quickly.

I read somewhere that people with certain health problems ought not to drink icy cold water. Go figure!

Thanks for passing this along!

The water comes out of our well ice cold. I give my ducklings lukewarm water until they are around 2 weeks old and then transition to cold. Everyone seems to be doing fine. I didn't read it anywhere though, it just seemed to make sense.

That makes a lot of sense :) I have only had 1 duckling (still have him) and only give ducklings room temp water. Maybe this is why I haven't had a dead duckling! :)

Really?? Weird? I gave my ducklings cold water all last winter, inside and outside. This years ducklings also had cold water when they were babies, they are almost 3-4 weeks old now and are just fine. Course, their water also might get warmed up by their heat lamp, but when it's outside in their playpen I always put cold water. But it's also really hot outside so it may get warmed up. Either way..like someone said it won't hurt..... ; )

I heard the same thing about turkeys. Warm water isn't such a big shock to their systems, especially if they are shipped and already under stress. Can't hurt to do it...
