It is nice to know someone out there understands all of this and where consumers are coming from.

This is a wonderful idea, but I agree that changing an already established name from Easter Egger to Rainbow Layer is just going to confuse more people. And we are already asking them to change something. I wouldn't push it that far...

mom'sfolly :

What I'm curious about is what if one of your standard Ameracaunas (which I'm sure I've spelled wrong) throws a non-standard colored chick. It is an Amercauna, but non-standard, which would get it labeled as an EE. I kinda like the term EE though, because it includes any bird that lays a tinted egg. When I was a kid I had a rooster that hatched from a lavender egg. He looked like a OEGB, but there was obviously something else going on. I like the pretty eggs my EE girls lay, and in general love the color varieties of backyard eggs.

In terms of backyard flocks, who cares if the bird meets breed standard. If you are not breeding and you get eggs and enjoy your bird; it doesn't matter what they look like. If you are breeding; that is a different story altogether.

It is how you go about it, tact for one thing can open doors for you ! Almost like "there is no I in ameraucana" or "Ameraucana spelled correctly" is yes, needed , yet I have never once spelled it correctly because I never remember to spell it that way!
If people ask about their birds, then say it looks more like a ____ then a ____. Instead of being bold chested and say how they were cheated and its a pee poor quality bird.
I am so proud of my girls, I know the diff and yet I still call them Ameraucana's even tho most have a straight comb (showing a mixed bird), most people don't care or want to hear me tell them, oh that is a pure bred show quality, rose comb, blue Ameraucana hen. This is a Gains cross with Ameraucana with a blah blah blah.
When looking at hybrids, either its a nice bird or not. You can plant the seed of honesty, let them find out the 'rest of the story' as Paul Harvey says...Good day.

Does anyone care to interpret for me what Spook said?
