Hi everyone! I just received an order from McMurrays today. I got 5 extra standard chicks, no idea what they are. Bright yellow with a big black spot right on top of their heads!

I'm also having trouble telling these standard chicks apart. I know that they are one each of cuckoo maran, silver laced wyandotte, speckled sussex, and araucana. Can anyone tell me which is which? (I also got a black star and a buff orpington, and those are easy to identify!)

Hi. A couple of months ago I bought these buff Orpingtons at a sale. On their cage it said that they are all female (none are laying yet) but for one of them, I'm not so sure. I don't really know anything about sexing chickens so can someone please help me identify the sex of the one at the top. They're still growing so I'm not sure if she's just older or is maturing faster than the rest but she does have a huge crown and wattles so I'm a bit confused. I already have a Black Orpington cockerel so I need to know whether or not I can keep it. Thanks.

The black and white one with the white spot on the head is the marans, the dark black/ brown with the patchy yellow marks around the eyes/ face is the wyandotte, I believe the dark brown with the puffy cheeks is araucana (what color did you order?) and the chipmunky one is the SS.

1- Cuckoo Marans. The white spot on the back of the head indicates the barring/cuckoo gene.
2- Silver Laced Wyandotte. See how the markings on the head are more silver than golden.
3- Easter Egger. You can't get Araucana from hatcheries and feed stores. Also notice the extra fluffy cheeks.
4- Speckled Sussex.

Can you get some better photos? Most camera phones can't really capture the shape of the feathers. Can't tell if there are male saddle feathers in the ones you posted.

Thank you, MontanaChickDoc and Junebuggena! :)

Can anyone identify this mystery chick that was also included? Bright yellow with a big black spot right on top of the head.
