Don't sick and/or get accident if you don't have money

PineappleMama, I agree. When I was there I was looked at as a foreigner although I was born there. But there were hoards of women waiting because they did not even have that much money. I also had that experience in Chicago when I went to a clinic. I had insurance through my mom's work, but the waiting room was cramped and the service was not great for what you pay. If I went to the hospital on campus, the cost would be even more but the service might only be a little (marginally) better. There's just more space in the waiting room.

it seems like all of us need to have insurance.. (hang on, I'm not promoting insurance)

but.. insurance is real expensive...

Rebel... didn't you get the memo? Nowadays 'living within your means' is blasphemy in the US...
Everyone, even an unemployed (by choice cuz sittin' on your arse drinking beer is more fun) moron is OWED a nice house in whatever school district they want, Tivo, DSL, a cell phone in every pocket, flat screen plasmas and a beemer...

All of it enabled by the credit card companies and the banksters. An unemployed moron with all the stuff you mentioned who isn't looking for a job will not have all those items you mentioned for very long. Because that person probably has everything on credit and is not living in their means.

When I was under 40 it was hard to get a credit card. Only people that could afford to pay cash were given credit cards. That's why people used to live within their means. Has nothing to do with them being raised better or any of that garbage. Not saying you said that PM. It just seems to be a general opinion of many people on here. It's human nature to want something before you can put all your pennies away. In America it's been made real simple to do so because the interest is so high on credit cards that they can absorb defaults and still make huge profits.

I think it's important, mulia, but I don't live in your country. And I don't have to worry about the insurance company collapsing. Yikes!

We purchase insurance for our family. The premium goes up every six months -- it is expensive. My so-so coverage is becoming less than so-so coverage. If I don't find another insurance company or switch to a lesser coverage plan, mine will go up by $100.00 a month in August. I hate it!!! We rarely use it, but I keep thinking if something major happens, it's good to have it. And it's so funny because we don't use it very much and yet the premium cost keeps going, higher and higher, especially within the past year and a half or so. It used to go up a little bit now it's been going up by $100.00 a month. The last time (February) it went up I switched to a higher deductible and still paid the same premium I'd been paying for the lower deductible. I really don't want a $10,000.00 deductible!

A very good friend of mine and former housemate got appendicitis last year. He HAD to go to the hospital for medical treatment. The resulting medical bills, over 10K, have destroyed him. He makes barely enough to pay his bills already. The hospital did not allow him to negotiate a lower fee because of he HAS income (albeit very low, less than poverty level), so he has no extra to pay for insurance. Their negotiations are only allowed for those without any income. So the hospital sent it into collections.

Other than that incident that could not be prevented in any way, he is healthy and fit. But all it took was one trip to the hospital to ruin his life and finances.

Something has to be done with the medical treatment in this country. My son is a perfect example of ts failure. He works very hard has a decent job that hes worked at for 15 years, but they do not offer medical. He has a son with ADHD and other problems his medication alone is over 250.00 a month. Here he had florida kidcare. they pay for the doctors but not his medication so that comes out of their household budget. Now last month he was rushed to the hospital with severe chest pains. They took him into the emergency room and ran all kinds of tests. Seems he has a white mass the size of baseball in his lung. The doctor on call said she didnt know what it was that he would have to go to a lung specialist for further testing. They sent him home with antibotics and said to go to a list of specialist that they gave him. Out of everyone on the list only one would see him without insurance and they could only give him an appointment 1 1/2 months away. He was also told he would need $400.00 to walk in the door. He is 38 years old with 2 small children he does not receive welfare, or food stamps and is now looking at trying to come up with this money just to walk in the door. If they need more tests run or he need surgery they can not afford it What is he supposed to do. In our state if he was an illegal he would get all the help he would need but because hes a hard working american he is expected to pay for it himself. I just wish all these politicians had to live like this for one year I am sure they would then realize that this country needs a complete overhaul when it comes to treatment of its own people before they worry about subsidizing other countries. I realize that there are areas of the world that need our medical teams that help but there are so many in this country dying or sick that need that help as well. Just my two cents worth

When he goes to court the judge will set a payment that he can afford, it happens all the time. Does this person know that once a hospital accepts a payment amount they have to accept that amount until the bill is paid? A young male's medical insurance is very cheap with a $5000.00 deductible. Use this as a life lesson to work harder get a better paying job and quit using I can't as an excuse. I did it and this person can also. I know this sounds harsh but it is a reality and available to those who are willing to work harder trhan the next guy.

Give it about 5 more years. There's nobody running against Obama. GOP might not even waste the money. It looks like the House will be going back to the Dems. We might just see some decent health care in this country before the whole system collapses and only the very well off can get medical care. All we can do is cross our fingers.

Our current system isn't working. Nuf said.

Yap, some of my friends that own insurance ranting to me about their whole income per month loss to pay insurance.

Insurance is thing that we'll use very rare except we have too low body immune..

and worse, we always hope we will never claimed any benefit of that. ( no one hope she/he get sick or die)

while we pay it really high.

Gov. should pay more attention to health care problem. in my opinion, it's useless to have rapid development in many fields while you can't afford to keep your people/citizen

healthy and far away from being poor just because to pay medical bill..

what can human do without health body? none, if (s)he can, then it wouldn't be as effective as a

healthy people can done.

It's because everyone in this country is brainwashed and either is in love with the government or hates it. People aren't thankful with what we have and even if we are subject to regulation by our government, we are given the opportunities that people in africa, yugoslavia, serbia, india, the middle east can only dream about! And tough it out! Obama's healthcare bill was a terrible idea! All our money going down the toilet for someone who can't afford a bandage for their paper cut! I understand some people don't have the money o pay for it, but you'll have money for food clothes, and shelter! Your kid won't die without his ADHD medication. /rant
